JANNERLILLY, Are these tablets taken alone or with another type?

I heard about this Masquitoe Patch from a friend, a product from China (recently seen being sold in Delhi), its a patch (about an inch long) that you have to stick to your body (on your cloth) and mosquitoes stay away from you for about 8 hours... each patch costs about Rs.20, comes in a pack of 2 or 3.

If anyone finds any information about it or can find it in Goa, please let me know.... thanks in advance.

noticed that the active ingredient is B1, so liberally plastering Marmite all over should work also, and it gives the impression of a good tan from day one

Just reading back some of the posts about the different malaria tablets to take for travelling to Goa.
So am I correct in thinking the chloroquine phosphate tablets are not recommended for travel to Goa  cos thats the one I brought back in April! So looks like I will need to pop into Boots and purchase the ones that cost about £17. Or does anyone know where I can get them any cheaper anywhere else? Need to get them and start taking them this weekend as we fly out next Saturday.

Hi Gemma33 we are also flying out next Saturday (24th) started taking chlorquine phosphate this week(bought in Goa) but will also start taking proganil (paludrine) this Saturday. The nice pharmacist in Superdrug ordered the proganil (paludrine) for me it costs between £10.50 and £12 a course of 98 tablets (2 a day for 7 weeks) strarting the week before you leave to be taken for duration of stay plus 4 weeks when you return. My local Boots branch told me there was no need to take anything, thats why I decided to go to Superdrug for further advice.
So the answer to your question is yes Chloroquine Phosphate are correct but must be taken with proganil (paludrine)

Thanks for that information, much appreciated. Will pop into the chemist and get some :D

Does anyone know if you can get Doxycyline in Goa? Been recommended to take either that or Malarone and it seems Doxycycline is the cheaper option, but still as effective.

How do you go about getting a private prescription for the drugs that web site companies request and how much are they?

Colleen, I had a chat this morning with the doctor I work with who specialises in travel medicine. He said that as the malaria parasite out there is resistant to chloroquine, it is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot!!! He has recommended either Malarone or Doxycyline, both of which you can get from your GP by private prescription.

we take the travel pack - our friends went to chemist and told to take just the chlloroquine, went back a few days laterto query this and told to take the double ones. When you order from travelpharm they arrive in 2 days

Apologies if this has been mentioned anywhere already but I thought I'd stick it on anyway. My sister's nurse has today told her today not to take Chloroquine because she has bad psoraisis. As I have had psoriasis in the past I checked on the internet and it does say that people with epilepsy should not take it and that it can worsen existing psoraisis or bring on an attack. Not relevant if you're not a sufferer but helpful if you are.

i usually take B1 tablets as a precaution against mossie bites!!! mainly because the malaria tablets affect me soooo badly!!
i must say, i think its preferable than speading marmite over yourself. oh having thought about it, i could be wrong though.!!!!!
