We have been taking them for the last 3 weeks with no ill effects. We are making sure that we don't take them on an empty stomache.

Well thats lucky, i was a sick as a dog when i took mine for the Dom Rep last year.

I have to start taking them again in about 6 weeks, off to the maldives.
I am dreading taking them again

I I don't beleive Malaria is a recommendation when going to the maldives - certainly no-one I know, or have met once there has ever taken them. I could understand it if you were going to Sri lanka first but i don't believe Malaria is prevalent in the Maldives. Therefore if they make you sick i wouldn't bother.

we went to the maldives, this year, and we didn't need malaria tablets. one of the reasons i picked it

Traveled twice to Maldives (soon to be 3rd trip) Twice to Cuba and Once to Dominican Republic and never taken or perscribed any maleria tablets.

we usually take malairia tablets at night before going to bed and find we dont feel the ill affects while we are asleep anita :D
