Hi

We took advice from our doctor before going to Sri Lanka and he put us on a 7 week course of Proguanil and Chloroquine. We were doing a tour of the country but I understand that if you stay near Colombo then you may not need to take them, however you should consult your doctor on the latest advice. Neither of us suffered from any side effects but the Chloroquine tablets did taste horrible.

I used to get bitten a lot on holiday but have found that taking garlic tablets, vitamins and Marmite, along with either Jungle Formula or Avon Skin So Soft has reduced my bites to a minimum. We also always use plug in vapouriser and bug spray in our room at night.

Thanks for that

Our doctors gave me some info this morning and after a chat with the chemist we are not going to take the tablets. We are staying in Negombo and are only in Sri Lanka 4 nights, with only 1 trip to the elephant orphange booked I will wear long sleeve shirt and trousers and spray myself with jungle formula several times. Hope I am being sensible not silly!!

I have bought jungle formula, vit B tablets and will eat my marmite. Fingers crossed the sand flies in Maldives leave me alone.
