Hello
I have a honeymoon booked to the Maldives in March 08. Am so, so, so excited - haven't travelled long haul for years!
I wanted to ask you seasoned travellers about the flight to the Maldives - we are going with Monarch and I believe it's a charter flight - our T/O is MyTravel - we are flying from Gatwick. Do you know if this is a direct flight?
How do you fill your time on such a long flight? (In cramped conditions?)
What are the meals like on these flights? Ie how many do they serve and what sort of food do they give you?
Years ago I flew to the Caribbean with Thomson and from what I remember they seemed to be feeding us every few hours, if not with a meal with snacks and drinks etc.
I would love to hear from anyone with any advice or stories about their flights (I am expecting the worse after reading Monarch reviews - just about how cramped the aircraft will be).
Not sure which forum I should be in with this - so please move my post if I'm in the wrong one!!
Thanks, Mrs M x
Hi Mrs Miggins and welcome to HT!
Thanks Luci

Hi, done Monarch twice to the Maldives, strongly suggest you try to upgrade to extra legroom seats (need to ring Monarch direct for this - i think the number is on their website - flymonarch.co.uk) - or pre-book seats together with your tour operator then contact Monarch on the same number - you can then request specific seats - there are about 5 rows at the back of the plane which are in pairs rather than 3s and are much more comfy! Last time we went out extra legroom was only available on return so we requested the pairs on the way out and it was miles better than our last trip in standard seats!
I know I won't be able to sleep on the flight, so I will have to take a good book and some sudoku puzzles to keep myself amused. I keep telling myself I will forget all about the flight once I arrive in paradise!
Oh and we stopped in Bahrain for refuelling, the stop was VERY welcome! Plus Bahrain is very cheap!!
