Hi there,
I'm new to this forum and thought I would see if anyone could offer any advice on my upcoming holiday! We are off to Maleme soon and I would like to know if there are many tavernas or restaurants in the area? We are booked into an all inclusive, but would like to know if we have any options outside of the complex? If anyone can give me names of places so I can google them before we go - that would be great! Also, are there any members on here that are based in Crete as all the weather sites are stating a variety of temps and conditions and wondered if they could let me know first hand how hot it is? We fly in just over a weeks time
Thanks in advance!

It's a live webcam not far west of Maleme. You can check the weather as it actually is.
I don't know the restaurants well enough in Maleme itself but be pleased that you're staying in western Crete because it has everything you could want. The actual beach at Maleme is not great but you're in striking distance of some of the best beaches in europe, notably Falasarna which has been voted the best in europe. If you want a great meal in a surprisingly quiet location go to Chania (bus is easy). I strongly recommend:
"KARNAGIO" : TAVERN - RESTAURANT. Katechaki Square 8, 73100, Chania Tel:+302821053366
They say about themselves:
"You will find us in the Old Harbor. We offer traditional Cretan cuisine, fresh fish and special cooked steaks. Our foods come from fresh, genuine products. We are always choosing foods without pesticides."
....and make the most of the White Mountains which you can see from your resort.
I suggest for the real weather that you visit: It's a live webcam not far west of Maleme. You can check the weather as it actually is.

Thanks for the info - 20 degrees at night - brilliant!
Kolymbari is a nice little fishing village with some lovely restaurants, you can even pick up a boat from the jetty and it takes you a short journey towards Aghia Marina and back.. doesnt take long but makes a change from the beach.
Maleme has some history and worth looking up. Platanais is along the coast and Ag. Marina, both very busy resorts. All in all a very pleasant place, fairly quiet. If you go on the weather sites they are pretty accurate. We have a friend in Aghia Marina and when I look it up she says it is spot on!
