Read in the papers on Sunday about Malia and the apparent recklessness of the youths there. I worked in Malia in summer 1999 and it hasn't changed a bit since then. The same fish bowls, cheap alcohol, clubs open until the morning etc etc and I loved it, as did everyone else.

The stories were saying that the locals were fed up of it. NO WAY! Yes of course some will be, but I'm sure if you were to ask anyone in Faliraki if they could have their busiest summers back of earlier this decade, they'd snatch your hand off. Faliraki is struggling now, big time, due to very similar reports in 2004.

If parents are scared off and young adults are cleared away from Malia , they will go somewhere else. Laganas, Kavos or Kardamena or somewhere new. Maybe society has to take responsibility, rather than blaming cheap alcohol/bar owners/reps/shots or anything else that fits.

P.s I'm an adult now, and would rather spend a weekend camping in Afghanistan than go to Malia, but I did enjoy it the time!!
