anyone have good or bad reports about this hotel, family holiday kids ages 14 and 16 travelling on 6th july
thanks for any replys, just found this site and think its excellent
hi,this is one of the best hotel in margarita island located in playa el agua the best beach in the island but is you go there ask to first choice for the ECO-SAFARI TOUR,this is the best way to know margarita island ,only them can take you to a places where none can ,is a full day tour all inclusive you won`t regret.
Thinking of going to Playa El Agua next year but have read several reports saying that the sea is too dangerous for swimming there. Is it that bad or do they mean that it's only bad if you swim far out.I love to swim in the sea but only go up to chest level in the water.Would this be safe or is even that not possible. It's no use booking to go somewhere that I can't go in the sea so any info would be very helpful.
Hi we went here about 7 years ago and the local rep never mentioned this, we went to porlamar on a day trip and were given a free local newspaper which mentioned that 7 people had drowned so far that year due to the strong undercurrents at Playa El Agua. Red Flag was always flying on the beach and people ignored it, I had no problems but am a strong swimmer. The heat here is the strongest I`ve ever experienced as its near the equator. We wouldn`t go back here as the hotel Playa El Agua now called Hesperia was nowhere the standard of All Inclusives in the Dom Rep. We had big cockroaches living in our bedroom wall, the fridge and aircon in our room kept us awake as it was so old and knackered. My wife had sunstroke and needed a doctor. The buffet food was a real mismatch of items, there were mice in the bread basket and a waiter crushed a cockroach that was walking near us in the buffet restaurant and we watched it die as he didn`t remove it out of view. I could go on about this place, the beach is public and there are drunks and druggies at night loitering on the main road. Try the Dom Rep or Cuba its much better !
hello has anyone stayed at this hotel in margarita who can tell me a bit about it please, we plan to go there at the end of april but cant make up our minds what hotel to stay at,your help would be good thanks.
Must say it's one fantastic hotel.
Take it your travelling with First Choice? If so you will be allocated a garden bungalow with lovely views.
Food brilliant, themed nights every night (some, not all repeated in our second week).
Pool was wonderful and plenty of sunbeds, beach always being cleaned with lots of beds with shades whatever time you went down.
The only down side for me was:
1) Only the pool bar open on a night so sometimes there was a little queue (but we got round this by tipping the bar man on the first night so whenever he saw us in the queue he'd put our drinks to one side!)
2) People aprroaching you trying to sell things on the beach (A firm no and they disappear!)
I have also been to Costa Caribe on Margarita and I must say Hesperia is far superior.
Any questions just ask.
I agree with Andy 2006. We stayed at the hotel last Sept for a week after doing the Lost World Adventure Tour on the mainland. The bungalows are really lovely, very spacious, each with it's own sun terrace. Normally we wouldn't go AI as we like to eat in different places. I was a bit dubious about booking, but I have to say the food was really quite good and we thoroughly enjoyed the theme nights. There was often a queue at the pool bar in the evenings but it never took very long to clear. If we decided to return to Margarita then I think we'd go back to the Playa El Agua. The hotel is well situated , near lots of local restaurants and shops so if you feel like a change there's loads of choice for things to do within walking distance.
Ok Pippy, have just done a review
can either of you tell me if it is safe to go out at night , and if so , is there anywhere to go ?. and are there any places of interest within walking distance in the daytime.
Any info at all will be greatly appreciated
thanks debbie
Many thanks Gail!
There are lots of shops, restaurants and bars, in a single street, just outside the hotel. To be honest we didn't go further than this, as we had spent the previous 8 days touring the mainland, before going to Margarita. We were a bit tired after the tour so we just chilled out and relaxed. One night we met up at another restaurant with friends we met on the tour and we got a taxi there. I didn't feel at all worried about going out at night and the staff in the local restaurants/shops/hotel were very friendly.
Regards
Gail
hi all, has anybody stayed at the hesperia playa el agua hotel, which were thinking of booking for next sept 08. feed back would be great thanks shazzer
We have a fantastic time, beautiful place.
hi andy,we would like to know, hows the food? and is it clean? and theres only 1 bar at night how do they get around that? thanks shazzer
The food is really nice much nicer than alot of places i've been! Plenty of choice and not too repetitive. Getting a drink on a night was probably the only problem I had there, long queues and sometimes only one person serving, I found getting a drink or two from the waiter in the restaurant before we left helped alot. If anymore info is needed just ask!
