Ive just check the price for 14 nights at the Marina Club apartments in Lagos with Wintersunshinetravel and a one bedroomed apartment is nearly 2000 pounds for the last two weeks in July 2008. I was considering booking them for next summer but 2009 prices are not yet up. (may be even more)
Bearing in mind this is accomm only, and I still need to pay for 4 flights and a transfer this seems a bit steep. or am I becoming out of touch and 2K is now the going rate for a fortnight in a SC apt due to the impact of the Euro ?
I know it's probably one of the best accomms in Lagos but I don't think I can justify it and am considering something very different.
That price was with my 'loyalty discount'

That is steep. Have you considered booking a private rental. There are a few on holidayrentals that overlook the Marina Club pool and have use of.
I think I paid 1,650 last year so I know it's not cheap and it's quality accommodation, but the above price is for 08 not 09 when it may be even more. I wouldn't mind but that's a one bed and I would really like a two bed, but would probably have to re-morgage.
I only started looking as I was investigating a package to the Algarve Holiday Village and First Choice have got their 2009 holidays for sale already.
If I DIY I will not book for ages. Easys flights don't come out till mid December, and I would always book flights first when DIYing.
I was so shocked at the price I felt compelled to post.

We stayed in a studio room at the Marina Club last October having previously stayed in private rentals. Really fancied it after reading all the positive reviews and it was nice, however i didn't really feel it justified the extra we paid.
In fairness I have only looked at http://www.wshtravel.com so should probably try a few more accomm only providers nearer the time.
If you don't mind me asking who did you book your studio through?

Have a look at Vilabranca Apartments. These are about 1 kilometre from Lagos centre and have 2 large swimming pools. Also a free coach service down to the town and the local beach and back.
the euro pouns exchange is 20% aprox down on last year, the accomodation sells in euro so £1650 last year + the fall in exchange rate 20% of that sum +£1980
We booked the studio through expedia, i searched a number of booking sites such as travel republic and freedomdirect and expedia just happened to have the best rate at the time.
The Dom Manuel apartments (not the hotel) just further to the right of the Marina are vey nice and have a lovely pool and pool area. These are mostly 2 bed apartments with pool and Marina views. Lots of these advertised on holidayrentals and ownersdirect, if you look at Marina apartments, they're the ones with the large square pool.
if you want to get the best prices with winter sunshine holidays you have to book at least 6 months in advance; you still get your loyalty discount and only have to pay a small deposit to secure your accomodation, balance then due approx 4 weeks before departure.
I will have a look about and see what is around. I would be very happy with Vilabranca
one of our favorite restaurants was up next them - Triangulo. Will also invesstigate Dom Manuel.
I see what you are saying Brian, in effect they haven't gone up at all. It is just the Euro, I thought it might be a bit of both i.e. Euro and inflation.
It probably seems worse as these are expensive the first place, if they had only been 1K for the fortnight it wouldn't have shouted out at me so much.

for£168. ; only paid 20% deposit balances due jan and feb 2009. so i think their prices are still cheap if you can get in early enough; good hunting
one of our favorite restaurants was up next them - Triangulo.
Yep! 5 minutes walk from Vilabranca and very good value, plus there is another great little restaurant-bar almost opposite the apartments called "O Pinquin"; favoured by the locals, and it has a small supermarket next door.
