I stayed at The Marquis 7 years ago. The food was very good and they have a very high level of hygiene. A good place for a wedding I would say.
Link worked fine Towpal - I can't remember seeing these pics when I googled - obviously a place that is accustomed to large events then, looks pretty good to me
Thanks to you to Neil, I have never been to this hotel so interested to hear what others have to say about it - especially the food hygiene - going out there on my own again so i don't fancy getting sick with nodody around to hold my hand if it were to happen.
Do either of you know of a disco here named Shiros or something similar? Is it in the resort? After the reception we are partying here apparently (until 2 am)
(although I reckon I will have gone back to my digs by then)
thanks again. Jude

The garden is beautiful. A few days I didn't bother going to the beach as it is so tranquil.
The manager Simon Fernandes is very approachable and polite. As a hotel it's a bit pricey on a per night basis but if you book a package it's a better deal. I found it a very safe, well kept, spotless environment.

Hi again Neil, yeah the link Towpal put up was very good and showed the gardens which I agree, look lovely. I won't need accommodation there as I have already booked myself into a small guesthouse in Calangute near the Goan Heritage. Trouble is I am attending this celebration on my own and although I know a few of the guests, I think I shall largely be on my own! I don't think I shall be staying out until 2 am though - not sure I could manage it these days
Probably just do the reception at the Marquis then have a pre-booked taxi to take me "home". Where abouts in Candolim is the hotel, is it near the fort?

Go past the Stonehouse to Aguada and turn I think first on right it's about 100 yards past Stonehouse (there is a big sign that says Marquis) go along the 'lane' 100 yards. It's next to Palms and Sands restaurant (which I thought was good).
Oooooooh I know where that is now
Just call me Rodney
So its that place you can see through the boundary fence as you leave Palms and Sands is it? I can visualise where it is now
OH has just told me we have a pic of the place somewhere - Now why didn't he say so sooner

Marquis Beach Resort has long had one of the nicest pool and garden areas of any hotel in Goa outside of the 5 star resorts. Unfortunately they don't seem to realise what an asset they have.
First there was the construction of the ugly "Shiro lounge bar and restaurant" at the far end of the garden. Having been built far too close to the high tide line, this is now on the verge of collapsing into the sea, as the beach in front of Marquis Beach Resort has disappeared.
Now they are building new rooms opposite the swimming pool, adjacent to the road. They claim that these will be ready in 3 months time. This is wildy over optomistic - in my opinion it will take at least double that long. In the meantime the construction work cannot fail to be disruptive. There is still plenty of garden left, and there's nothing wrong with the food, but i just wish they would leave the place alone!

I have a masseuse friend that works at The Marquis so i always drop in to see him every year. I'm always amased that they are trying to 'promote' the bar at the end of the garden which either is never open or no one uses. Still love the gardens.
Hi,
I have stayed there 3 times, the food is good, great staff.

Thanks everyone for the additional information. I have never actually visited this hotel (only walked past as OH has now informed me
!!!!!) so it will be a "first" for me in November. Thank you for enlightening me about the Shiro lounge bar/restaurant, I guessed it was probably on the hotel site but wasn't sure so PhilinGoa many thanks for that bit of info. I now know I don't need to go far for the planned evening disco (should I decide to attend). One good bit of news is that two of my friends from the UK have also been invited and will be attending the wedding etc so I won't be "Billy no mates" after all. Can't tell you how relieved I feel
I suppose the only worry now is "will Shiro's lounge bar still actually be there in November or will it have been washed away"?
Oh well, we shall have to wait and see.
