any one been to the dreams beach resort in marsa alam booked for 30th may next year ??????????
we`ve booked the dreams beach hotel in marsa alam for whit next year 2007 cant wait yes its a new hotel for this year 2006 if its anything like its sister hotel dreams beach in sharm you cant go wrong went there for easter this year thats why we picked dreams beach in marsa alam for whit next year we wanted to go to the other side of the red sea where you can get into the water from the beach without going along a jetty and get in the sea with the dolphins (aparently there is a pod of dolphins which live not far from marsa alam)
we came back on 16th. Hotels very isolated from each other. We booked independantly, flights with thomson and hotel with med hotels. Very windy as well which was a godsend in the heat.
Me and my boyfriend have got back from our holiday in Marsa Alam and i just thought i'd give you some info about our experiences...
First of all, it was fantastic! :)
HOTEL
Our hotel, the Calimera Habiba (all Inclusive) was lovely. All the staff were very friendy and helpful. Our room was very clean and spacious and included a satelite TV (the national geographic channel is ace!) and a self adjusting air conditioning unit which was very useful! It was a bit noisy at night, but nothing to moan about really.
FOOD
Because this hotel was fairly new when we went, it was very quiet! But everything is super clean and sparkling new! The resturant was excellent with a huge variety of snacks and meals practically all day. We tried a bit of everything including salads and raw fruit and had no tummy problems whatsoever, we even had ice in our cocktails on the last day and still werent ill!
ACTIVITIES
During our stay we went scuba diving with the local dive school called Pioneer Divers. We did a dive day where we did 2 separate dives at different sites. The diving was totally amazing as you'd expect out there, all staff and guides were very friendly and helpful.
Other days we went snorkelling from the beach (a minute walk from our room) and saw stingrays, triggerfish, damsels, urchins and starfish.
We booked our holiday with Thomas Cook and went on a few of these excursions - Luxor and a Jeep Safari.
The Luxor day was incredibly long... 3 am start and back at midnight (21 hour day), but it is well worth it! We visited the Karnack Temple, Valley of the Kings, River Nile, Papayrus Factory and Valley of the Queens.
The jeep safari took us out into the arabian desert where we took in the scenery, had dinner and a dance with a Beduoin family and then did some spectacular star gazing!
As you can tell from reading this, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend it to anyone! If you have any further questions, just post them up here and i'll do my best to answer them for you!
Hope this info helps!

We are going to the Calimera in May and have taken the deluxe upgrade, are there any rooms you think we should try and book in advance? i.e. for views or distance from night entertainment for peace and quiet. We are looking forward to a week of heat spent snorkeling and lazing about with one mad day trip to Luxor.
Any info or tips to try and secure a great room would be fantastic.
Barry.
When i went to the Calimera Habiba, it was very very quiet, so we could pretty much have whichever room we wanted! We made a request through our travel agent (Thomas Cook) for a double room that was on a higher level, and we got it, with a sea view too! It was also in a nice quiet area looking over the beach away from the night enetertainment. The only disadvantage was that we were as far away as possible from the All Inclusive resturant, but it was only a few mins walk.
The staff are incredible helpful and firendly and will be very happy to help you out if you have any requests.
Glad you enjoyed the Luxor marathon as we are giving it serious thought, have seen somed people say it was two days so glad to see it can be one long day, can you give an idea of the cost of the trip?
Is there any dress code for any of the restaurants at the resort?
Is there a fridge/mini bar in the rooms?
Which currency do they prefer there?
Thanks again for you help.
Barry.
The Luxor trip can be done in two days, but we went for one day as we were only there for a week... off the top of my head, i think the trip to Luxor was about £75 per person.
That's rather pricey, but you do get to see A LOT! We went to the Karnack temple, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Buffet lunch at a resturant, visited a few local markets, a papyrus factory and a boat trip down the river Nile for an extra £2, it's worth it!
Just to remind you, from the Calimera Habiba Hotel, the trip to Luxor will be a 21 HOUR DAY, starting at 3am and arriving back at midnight! Get plenty of rest the day before and take it really easy the next day!
IMPORTANT - take plenty of bottled water with you (fromt he hotel), as Luxor is very very hot as it's inland (it was 45'C when we went), the last thing you want is dehydration on such a long day.
Dress code for the hotel resturant wasn't very strict, you just had to make sure you were covered up in say, shorts and a t-shirt or something, no swim wear.
There is a fridge in the rooms inside a wooden cupboard. They top it up with fresh bottled water everyday.
Currency - we used Egyptian Pounds for everything and had no problems.
Ok, i think i've covered everything! If you have any other questions, i'll be more then happy to answer them for you. I have some photos of our holiday too, if you are interested i can try to post some up here for you to see?
Hi everyone, we're thinking of booking the Tulip Resort in Marsa Alam for next may/june.....looked at their website, looks like heaven! and we would be getting an excellent price, just wondered if anyone had been?
We booked on Monday and ended up requesting an upstairs suite as it seemed good value, look forward to seeing your pics and we shall eventually leave you in peace.
Barry.
Is is true that there were no coffee making facilities in the room. You have to go to one of the pool bars or a resturant.
Snorkelling - when we went the tide was out for most of the day so the sea level was only about a foot deep! We found the morning the best time to go snorkelling as the tide seemed to be furthest in at this time, but you are best to keep an eye on it, as i dont know for sure. I think i know what u mean by the jetty, i remember seeing it, but we never snorkelled there, we managed to find some good places before you reach the jetty. When the tide is in, there i was so much to see! Lots of tangs, triggerfish, a few little eels, blue spotted stingrays, starfish etc.
BE AWARE - there were also lots of long spined sea urchins and stonefich around, be careful you don't accidently tread on them or touch anything. Stonefish are incredibly well camoflagued, take care not to touch or step on any stones/rocks in the sea. When you go snorkelling, you will have to wear some reef shoes for this reason.
Tips - I think we tipped a couple of times to individuals, we gave the staff 10 - 20 Egyptian pounds (thats £1 - £2).
Ok, hope the above information is helpful! ill try and get some pics posted up here soon, i got to work out how to do it!
Jo is having panic attacks about no coffee in bed and is now talking about taking a travel kettle.
Did you have any visa problems? I've heard if you get the visa when you arrive in Sharm you need another one for trips away like the Luxor trip, is it the same at Marsa Alam?
For posting pics anywhere I use http://www.photobucket.com it's free and gives you links under each pic for posting each photo on forums or you can upload a few pics and give people the link to your account and they can view all the pics at Photobucket you have uploaded.
Cheers again.

We are thinking of going to marsa Alam this Easter for two weeks with our young kids 6 and 2. Can't decide on which hotel though as they all look rather nice.
Does anyone know of which one would be more suitable for kids? Would like warm pools, a waterslide (went to Titanic in Hurghada July 06 and Grand Azure June 05 and the slides kept my daughetr entertained everyday) and a mini disco at night.
Anyone else going over Easter with young kids?
Thanks
Nicky
