Has anyone been to the new hotel at Marsa Alam called Calimera Habiba?

My boyfriend and I are going on holiday there in September and would really appreciate any information at all that anyone can give us (e.g. food, staff, activities etc)

I look forward to hearing from you, thanks!

we've (my bf & i) just booked a flight to marsa alam for 1 week in april (17-24) and precisely during easter holiday mania...

since we only have a flight, we will definitely need accommodation. how much should it cost for a veeeeeeeeeeery low budget with absolute no luxury? we're looking for something as cheap as possible for 2 persons.
we were really rushing too soon to book the damn flight before fetching info that its quite a horror to find dirt-cheap stuff on our own overthere...

got an offer for an apartment for 20€/person/day...thats just about the max. line...

oh well...im sooooooo desperate if i could find anything cheaper than this...

how expensive is marsa alam in general anyway? how much would we need for a meal and all that? how much does a diving cost on average?

is there a good transportation to get around or is a car a necessity?

what else to see and do there apart from beach and diving?

any reply or websites for further detail infos are much appreciated! thanks a lot in advance!

Not sure if its of any interest, but in todays travel bit of the telegraph there is an article on diving in the red sea and it seems to be set around Marsa Alam.

A couple of :fish pictures and a mention of a hotel called the Sol Y Mar Solitare.

I can't do links but if you put http://www.travel.telegraph.co.uk into your browser and the put 'the deep south' into the search it should come up.(hopefully  )

Thought I'd put this up as there isn't much info around on Marsa Alam.

Briar - I've also put this in the snorkelling sticky, but delete if you feel its not appropriate.

Thats quite a nice little article you've found there, I did what you said by putting in "the deep south" into the serach bar and just to let you know, it works fine! :)

One thing I noticed though, the first picture in the article (the shark) is not an Oceanic White tip shark, its actually a Whitetip Reef shark.
Sorry, couldn't help myself being picky as I work with sharks and we have Whitetip Reef sharks at the aquarium I work at... would be great to see them in the wild! :fish

:) hi i am off to marsa alam in august, are any other users going, we are staying at the flamemnco beach. we stayed at the conrad last year and loved it. had a bit of a nightmare this year, originaly booked laguna vista gardens in sharm but found out recently that the hotel isn't finished being built, so we have changed destinations completely. it would be nice to talk to people going to mars alam, last year we spent so long talking to people who were going to the conrad, we felt we had made many friends. there doesnt seem to be much info for flamenco beach although web site looks nice. :)

I phoned Thomas Cook the other day and have just found out that the new Calimera Habiba hotel at Marsa Alam is now up and running and open!

Good to know it'll all be well up and running by the time we go in September!
If anyone goes to this hotel before we do in September, please private message me or post up here what it is like!

Hi
My family and some friends of ours have booked a two week stay at Dreams beach hotel in Marsa Alam, however, we have been told by other friends of ours that this hotel has not been built although we have been reassured by thomson (who we booked through) that the hotel is built and people are staying in the hotel.

Can anyone give me any information please?
Thank you.

My boyfriend and I are very interested in doing some of the excursions from Marsa Alam when we go.

We would like to do scuba diving, quad biking and a trip to Luxor.

Does anyone have any idea how much these things will cost??????

We really need to know so we know how much spending money to take!

Any estimates or info will be appreciated!

i have just booked a week in this hotel for August and can't find much info about it (except their own website - very impressive).

last year i took my kids to Sharm - had a fantastic time, but i want to see more of Egypt so have booked this week for just me!

i know that this is a quiet resort & am looking forward to some simple snorkeling & maybe a trip to Luxor.
but i was wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel - i think its quite new - or has experience of trips from here.

thanx

just booked a flight to marsa alam for the 9th august, anyone no if there are taxies available form this airport as we are going independently. Also anyone no of a good hotel in this area for 2 adults and 2 children

Its been two years since I was last into the airport so things may have changed but its fairly remote from the resort area and most of the flight (if not all) were being picked up by normal transfer and there were not many taxis around. I strongly suggest that you look around for a hotel before you go and contact them and arrange for them to collect you. Have a look at the resort report here anf the hotel reports here to help you. I cant remember the hotel I stayed at as it was only one night at the end of a dive liveaboard trip.

I am also travelling on the 9th Aug. I couldn't get transfer with holiday company (Thomson) from airport to Abu Nawas hotel as i am a single traveller & they wanted me to pay double!!
so i emailed hotel direct & have arranged a car to collect me from airport for Euro40.

don't know if this is expensive or not - just happy to be going!
