We were in the Algarve last week and my wife went for some antibiotics to the chemist and was told she required a prescription? She has been able to get them before without a prescription in Spain.
Hope this helps.

One of our kids was sick while we were away last year while in Portugal and we needed a perscription to get Antibiotics but you dont in Spain.
In case you're unlucky enough to need a prescription whilst in Portugal and need to go to the health centre, if the centre in Lagos is typical, they have a ticketing system ( like the Deli in Tesco ) so take a ticket from the machine as soon as you get there or, otherwise you'll be queueing and going further down the queue. Hope, for your sake, that you don't need this tip.
Thanks guys was just curious..
If you explain what's going on with who's sick and all they may sell it without prescription. I buy antibiotics without it all the time!
They're not supposed to sell, but they can if they want to.
I hope you just won't need this advice!
Same here, just go in and explain the symptoms.
The pharmacy wont sell you antibiotics for any viral conditions as they wont help.
I don't know anyone who has been able to get them without prescription lately, but they are all British. I think it makes a difference if you are "local"
I was in Lanzarote and Alicante last summer and in both places i could get inhalers without a perscription. Its also a fair bit cheaper there than a perscription charge here for one item.
No you don't, my brother in law always picks up half a dozen when he is over, I think they are about 4 euros.
Gerally you need to visit a Health Clinic, costing 60 euros to see a Dr in order to get the prescription for anti-biotics. A home/hotel visit by the Dr. will cost 120 Euros.
