Oh goodness! Sorry Carole, but this crops up nearly every year!! I think you should contact the individual campsites for their interpretation of 'men's swimwear' ............. and of course, there will always be a site which insists on one thing i theory and turns a blind eye in practice.
But yes they all differ, funny rule I know!
Agreed - most of the places I have been to insist on 'proper' trunks and do not allow shorts. The theory being that no 'bits' can come into direct contact with the water. I have even seen places which require you to have a shower before entering the water.
