Can anyone give me an idea of day trips in the Cancun area of Mexico. We are travelling with First Choice to Riu Caribe hotel in September. I'm just trying to work out how much spending money to take so an idea of what trips they offer and also how much they cost would be ideal.
Thanks,
Charlene
Combined Tulum amd Xel ha day trip
Xcaret
Chichen Itza full day
Half day Tulum
Full day Xel ha (all inclusive)
Coba trip to include lunch, visit to Mayan village and swim in Cenote
We did the last 3, Coba being the absolute highlight of the holiday. I can't remember absolute costs but we did spend a lot of money on excursions, but there again it was us and the two children. I have a feeling the full days were in the region of £80 an adult maybe more, but the half day at Tulum was perhaps £25 or thereabouts. FC do take credit cards and to be honest we didn't find anyone doing the trips much cheaper. To their credit a full day was precisely that and they were very well organised.
We went with the attitude that if we were going that distance we would see what we wanted to regardless of the cost and it really was money well spent. If you want to know anything else feel free to ask.

Im also going with 1st choice in sept, and im taking about 1500/2000 (for 2) just to be safe!
i dont think its too expensive, but it depends on if you want to go out, as i here the nightlife is very busy!

we didnt really go mad on trips but we ate out a bit (we were all inclusive and went out say 4 -5 nights to different restaurants)
Its well cheaper than here in the UK - the night clubs are definitely worth it you pay approx 40 dollars and its a free bar - we spend way more than that anywhere here in the UK
if you are booking trips id recommend booking them with tour operators there - it worked out way cheaper than through your rep - we did the captain hook night and it was a brill night out -
any questions feel free - we love cancun - and would go back every year - the only down fall is the 10 hour flight from the UK

i saw it on some website, just not sure whether to book it or not???
that would be something else though!

We went over to Isle Mujures (we went with some friends) theres a place there you can swim with a shark and you only have to leave a donation - sounds a bit suss but our friend did this and we sat and had a beer
me and my mrs are goin to el dorado royale on 30th sept and were taking £500 ($1000) between us and dont intend to spend all that...
i have been before and found most of the trips really expensive for what you got..... needless to say, this time we will be be swimming with dolphins and thats about it unless anything else takes our fancy........
have a great trip...
@Leah 86
Just got back (Tue 28/08/07 @7am) from Mexico and didnt experience much disruption despite hurricane Dean's best efforts.
If you visit Isle Mujures you can do your dolphin discovery and then you have the oppurtunity to swim in a tank with bull sharks, you are on an outer ring and are seperated by perspex but it does give photo oppurtunities.
A different trip is the boat out to swim with whale sharks, you get a boat out for one hour to where the carribean sea and the gulf of mexico meet and spot the whale sharks feeding on the plankton (they have no teeth). You then get of the boat in small groups and the guide swims you near them, to within a couple of metres.
The whale sharks will be moving in a couple of weeks therefore they become less and less so the trips are not offered.
hope you enjoy your trip
swimming with dolphins is good, i think its about £90 not too sure and the jungle tour was great, i enjoyed it more than the dolphins, you get in a 2 seater mini speed-boat drive through a mangrove thing haha and then snorkle in what they say is the worlds 2nd biggest reef, the bloke also said that we were swimming with phiranas, ugly little mites
we did two trips when we was in cancun booked both through the hotel worked out cheaper We did the jungle tour which we really enjoyed driving your own speedboat to the coral reef went faster on the way back also had two pics taken really cheap price and great memento. We also went to chiken itza but booked to go on a private minibus alot better only ten of us we had our own guide as well much more personal really great and informative trip
Lynner or Webbo.1 can you tell me how much the jungle speedboat trip was? Also, and this sounds like a silly question, but can you remain on the boat while the other person goes snorkelling? I'm really not into snorkellng at all but my husband would love it!
hi sorry i cant remember exactly how much it was but it wasnt expensive You do not have to go in the water i decided to stay in the boat which are all tied together and the guide was always around I too dont like snorkelling but still saw some fish from the boat
I appreciate that you said First Choice in the heading, but most tour operators tend to run similar excursions with similar prices so this should give you a good idea.
We are off to Playacar in 2 weeks(with Thompson) and there appears to be a lot more excursions from that area so I am using this as guide for budgeting.
