Just got back from Portugal yesterday, the day of the public sector strikes. I couldnt sleep for a couple of nights worrying in case we got massively delayed.
Well, we landed at Stansted around 10am, hardly any queues at passport control, and as soon as we got to were the luggage comes out, our case was there. I'd say we were outside of Stansted airport arrival doors within 15/20 mins of getting off the plane.
We stayed at the Sol E Mar hotel for a week bed and breakfast. Lovely hotel and would stay there again. We paid 89 pounds each for the flights and hotel, so we got a bargain i think. When we got there a nice Irish man said that he was just about to go home but it had only started to be nice weather. Seems we missed the bad weather. It was around 20 degrees every day, but felt warmer. Have a lovely tan that i'd usually get from going to somewhere warmer, so im not complaining.
We just wanted a week to relax, but by the 3rd or 4th day we were very bored with eating, relaxing, sunbathing, and eating in the same touristy cafes/restaurants.
What is with the chicken peri peri being advertised everywhere
We went on a trip to Lisbon which was amazing. This is what started my desire to go on City break holidays, much to my partners surprise.
Casa De Fonte was closed, but we ate at another restaurant facing it, not sure of the name but looked very nice and had tables in the windows. Had an excellent meal there.
Piri Piri is a local spice that came from its colonies in Africa and Asia it is a hot pepper type of spice, in England you can get some in a restaurant chain called Nando's or most supermarkets sell it as well.
Last of all if you would like a nice City break, take a look at Seville in Spain really nice place, and you can go from Stanstead with Ryan Air.
I have found out that the restaurant O Tunnel has changed hands and is now a British owned place doing fish and chips, Sunday Roasts and the like I have been told it is not bad food but it will never match up to what it was, a very good Portuguese Restaurant with some of the best food in Albufeira, a sad lose.
