Going to these villas on saturday and before i booked them over a year ago,i searched the web endlessly for feed back on them but could only find a few reviews. They all said that they are excellent villas of a high standard in a quiet part of cala santandria just by the beach. For one of the reviews go to http://www.menorca-net.co.uk/forum/index and select the santandria area to see the rewiews. All the tour operaters selling the villas all say the same type of things so fingers crossed I hope we will have a great time. Will post something when we come back.
thanks ranch are you hiring a car we hope we dont have too, also how far in advance did you have to book
I booked the villa about 13 months ago with direct holidays because the year before i tried for these villas for the may bank holiday period, six months before and they had none left! Now of course there are 20 villas here and maybe direct holidays only let about 5 or so because there was availability with thompsons and some other menorcan villa specialists but all were about £500 more than direct so tried to make sure I could get the weeks i wanted.Cost me £3100 for aug 20 and if you go in june about £2700 with direct.Yes I have hired a car from the airport with carjet which I booked in april for £250 for 14 days, medium sized family car ford focus 5 door, air conditioning. You don`t have to hire a car but with 3 little ones in toe its a good idea for us.Of course like all things you may be able to pick up a bargin price on villa or a car somewhere but at the time and many hours of searching the web, I think I got the best deal for me at the time. Can`t wait to go now and looking forward to my first holiday were I won`t become vexed by the early morning towel on sunbed brigade!!!!
we are hoping to book via thomas cook on monday for july next year. we have 4 adults and two girls aged 13 and 14 when we go hubby wont drive abroad let me know all about your holiday when you get back
Back from our holiday at the Maribel Villas and they are just fantastic!! Each villa is a two story house with good sized pool and patio areas and a nice shaded area with table and chairs to eat outside if you wish.Air con in every room and each unit has its own remote control to turn on or off as you wish, good sized rooms, two bathrooms and good sized kitchen. There are 20 villas on a small estate which is the shape of a block and most are accessed from the roads at their fronts and some down a pathway to a cul de sac type arrangement.Once you have your bearings which takes a day or so you will find you are right next to the beach, about 100-500 meters depending on which villa your in,there is a good spar shop and gift and paper shop etc right on the road outside. The beach is small but fine with a gentle slope into the water and sunbeds are for hire if you wish. The Maribel villas are part of a complex of accommodation spread throughout santandria all under the Maribel name and the main reception for the villas where they ask you to attend your welcome meeting is about a 10-15 min walk from the villas, faster if you walk quickly. At this main centre there is a road of bars ,shops, resturants etc maybe 10 bars and 6 or so eating places,we did`nt eat here but they looked fine. There is a good resturant right next to the beach which we found excellent but can get busy and if you walk to the main road and then onwards for 5 mins there is a nice resturant frequented by locals as well as holiday people. You dont need to hire a car here if you dont want to but it helps, for instance there are several little coves around which are only a few mins in the car but maybe a 20 min walk and also a large supermarket called diskconet about a 5 min drive from the villas, this is the equivalent of a small asda where the locals shop and is much cheaper than the spar. However the taxis are not expensive and to get to any of these places would not be a problum. In all these villas are fab in a quite area and we are already trying to book for next year!!!!
glad you had a great time, and thanks for all the info , cant wait to go now but alas have to wait till next july,
is there a duty free shop mear the villas
Cala santandria is only very small, and only has about 3 shops, 1 being a spar where you can purchase booze and ciggies, a lot cheaper than UK,ie 29 euros for 200 berkeley and cheap vodka 7 euros a litre. We went into Ciutadella though to bulk buy our ciggies, from a tobaconist, and they worked out about 26 euros per 200. Also I would have thought booze cheaper at the big supermarkets but couldn't be bothered to get to them, as we were only there a week.
The spar shop is accross the road from the villas, and other the side of that road is the bus stop to Ciutadella, they run very efficiently on time etc and it is only 15 min run.
Cheers Bellana
thought it was a bigger town ,we dont drive so guess it will be buses into the nearest big town
anyone going there this july
we are not taking car and i wonder if anyone has been and how they got their keys to villa we ve been told we will get on arrival but if anyone has first habd experience i d be most grateefful for any info
When we went to these villas, the coach dropped us of outside, the rep showed us to the villa. The side door of the villa was open and the keys were on the table.
We also did not have a car but it didn't prove to be too much of a problem, with a bus stop and shop around the corner.
Cheers Bellana
thanks belana for the info its very helpful only 13 or so weeks to go now
we are visiting these apartments in July, it will be our second visit to cala santandria but our first at the villas mirabel. From what I remember there is not very much at cala santandria, but it is about a 10 minute walk to cala blanca which we loved! (a small selection of nice bars, cafe/restaurants and usual supermarkets & gift shops) We said on our next visit we would like our own villa and pool-so we are looking forward to visiting these villas-Ive heard a rumour that there is now a little train which runs between santandria and cala blanca so I w0uld be interested to know if this is correct as my parents are coming with us and are not as nimble on their feet as us-also any more info on the villas would be appreciated
when in july are you going jay. have also heard about this train
does anyone know if there is a booklet about santndria
Cant wait
will miss you then as we are not going till 14th july
Hope you have a good time, its a lovely area-you will probably be arriving as we are leaving-'ll be jealous
