Anyone make sense of this?????
*Portland brochure Oct 2006 - April 2007
*Holiday to Cyprus, Alexander the great hotel B&B 21st Oct 2006
* Fab flying out on my birthday
* Brochure price for dates 20th Oct -31st Oct £405 (excluding flight and fuel supps)
*Checked on line with a view to booking - price came up over £800 per person!!!!!! more than double - a mistake??
* Queried this with advisor who phoned back 3 days later No mistake higher price still in the summer brochure so thats the charge!
Clearly states dates and prices in the brochure - is this one for trades description ???
Certainly not paying that amount Supermum
i never go with brochure price cos you can bet your last euro that wont be the price you pay , ive never paid brochure prices in all the years ive been going abroad.
always cheaper.
My initial thought was the same as your Lucas - brochure prices are over stated - but that's a big hike in price quoted by supermum. I was going to suggest you research net prices supermum, print off the quote and ask the agent to price match it, but not sure if you could do that with Portland. Are they direct agents? But then again isn't 21st October the half-term holiday?
Seems a big hike, but are they now working from the same edition brochure ?
I will have to be like the queen and have two birthdays! one in the cheaper holiday season
ps Portland is Thompson
Supermum
Hi Saintscully - the higher price is the net price the brochure price was what I would have been happy to pay.
Why pay that changed price for cyprus when you can go b&b in the caribbean for cheaper or the same?
Maybe she doesnt want to go to the Caribbean... Me thinks she wants to go to Cyprus
i never book too far in advance, i have met meant people who have booked a year in advance to get 25% off the brochure price which was still twice what i paid
Never believe anything printed i a brochure {ratings facilities etc} always check first
and above all A Price is only an Offer To Sell don't accept it and hammer the price down but be prepared to take a second choice if this fails ( it doesn't often)
If everyone in this country was prepared to haggle then our excessive prices on all items would fall to the benefit of everyone

It always get me, when adverts on tv, internet, newspapers when they say from only such and such per person. Then when you look into it, its based on a gang of 6 sharing an apartment, each paying that much each. Less than six, bang on the supplements. I'd love to stay in a studio, probably one room with a bed settee, that would do me, but notice, its always for 3 sharing. On go the supplements. The only way round it is to book direct with owners.

Unlike the brochures you pick up in the travel agents which apparently are a 'guide only' and subject to 'fluid pricing policies' (yeah right! can charge what they fancy on the day!).
It looks like that this is no longer the case.
