Sandals Royal Hicacos wasn't ever the place to go if you wanted the Sandals experience. Although Sandals managed it, they didn't own it, and it wasn't the same as their own hotels. It didn't even appear on their website. It had its own separate site.

Virgin should have informed you about the change of management, but at the time you booked it wasn't mis sold because Sandals were still managing it. Cubanacan, who had always been their partner took over in mid July, and then I think Memories took over the day to day management in October. It would have been in the same shape even if it was still Sandals managed. Not sure they even offered all the Sandals usual frills when they managed it.

I agree with sunaddict...

At the time you booked, the hotel you chose came under the Sandals umbrella. Only when it changed hands should you have been informed.

I cannot add anything helpful to OP or to what has already been said by others but if it is important to others in the future that their hotel in Cuba is managed by a specific company then my post in the Cuba forum here might be of help.
