Sao Domingo is in a excellent location, central to all bars/restaurants much better than Mobor. Looks nice from outside but have not stayed there. If I had a choice I would pick Sao Domingo

Thanks Allsaints.

I think the Sao Domingo sounds the better option. I have just emailed them so hopefully they will have a room available. Otherwise back to the drawing board!

Thanks everyone for all your help!

Hi Sandyshoes. Please bear with Edwin ~~ the family live opposite the guest house, which is closed during the Monsoon period and I guess he wouldn't log onto his email every day. He will get back to you though. Hope you enjoy when you finally get there.

If you need any further information regarding the area then p.m. Tightjock, he is a mine of information and his recommendations will be top notch.

Regards
Linda

If you do go make sure you take a pair of good binoculars, go down to the river (2 minute walk) order a beer and watch the birds/boats etc.

And make sure you order your beer from the River View restaurant as they have built a pontoon on the river and its the perfect place for a great lunch whilst watching egrets, kites, kingfishers and if your lucky an osprey whilst looking at a fabulous river view in one direction and a working fishing port the other and a couple of Goans diving for oysters from a dug out canoe ahhhhh!!!! memories :)

Hi everyone,

Not to upset the apple cart but heres my view on the Sao Domingo, I have to say we only stayed for two night in December last year and I agree the location is very very good, but we found the rooms a little small I wouldnt have like to have stayed in them for 2 weeks (2 doubles and 1 single) perhaps we were given these rooms because we were only staying 2 nights, although 1 of the doubles was at the front of the hotel looking over to the restaurant We found the restaurant where we had our breakfast could have been cleaner, juice of some kind had been spilt on floor which attracted lots and lots of flies this was still there on the 2nd day we spend most of breakfast waffing our arms about trying to get rid of the flies much to the amusement of the staff!! The chef would shout the waiter that our breakfast was ready, he would then put it on a table and it sat there till the waiter went to get it - again this attracted lots of flies.

Im sure our experience was not the norm but just felt I had to give my opinion, this website is so helpful - keep up the good work fellow Goan lovers

We have been visiting Goa for the last 6 years- at least once a year so we are use to the standard :o we normally stay in the north decided to check out the south and will be staying in Cavelossim in Feb next year but Im now undecided about were to stay, we were looking at the Mobor but people seem that might not be what we expected. Think I'll keep checking reviews as the season gets going.

don't worry about posting your unfavourable view of the hotel. Members need the good and bad to help inform them better.

Just a quick add on to this thread I think from Palm Grove in the heart of tthe original Cavelossim village to The Old Anchor at the other end is only a 15 minute walk so i don't think there is a bad location in the village and the beach is no more than a 5 minute walk from anywhere.

I posted a reply on the other thread but it hasn't bumped up and I seemed to end up the timeshare forum :?

As madaboutgoa says as long as you respect the sea you will be fine. The currents vary from tide to tide but you can tell even at ankle depth if there is a strong pull with that tide and slightly further along at cavelossim you can actually see where currents meet so its best to stay in the middle of the 2 currents (If looking out it looks like a triangle), if that makes sense I will try to think of a better way to describe it.

the other thread was more to do with the timeshare aspect than holidays so it was moved to the correct forum. However, I kept a "shadow" here so that members here could still read and add to the thread. (If you see "moved" in front of a title you can still click on it and it will open.) This also happens when queires on buying property come up- they are moved to expats but with access from here as well. Best of both worlds!

Yes Mobor beach hotel are building villa`s to sell but 50 yards down the road opposite haathi also building is going on has been for about 2 years shops and flats on top. sao domingo is good but no pool but edwin has 2 bungalows opposite the dona silvia with shared pool have seen them basic but clean, his price for over the christmas period this year was £700 for 2 weeks but sleeps 6 I think.

I think Edwins new guest house is due for completion for the start of the season as well though madaboutgoa may know more on that though.

Thanks all for your replies, it's good to get lots of opinions.

I am still in 2 minds, I have booked the Mobor Beach but also emailed Edwin at Sao Domingo but still haven't received a reply as yet. I will then make a decision when I find out their availability. It's more the cleanliness and the position of the hotel as we don't spend much time in the hotel/apartment usually.

We are used to the Albuquerque apartments in Candolim which are top notch and an ideal location.

I am really looking forward to spending a bit more time, rather than the odd day in the South. We have also booked a hut in palolem for 2 nights so looking forward to that!

Thanks again!

If you are visiting Palolem, pop into Agonda on the way in. An absolutely perfect Robinson Crusoe beach.

Enjoy !!

I was also planning on doing this from reading all the good reviews!

Cheers!
