We took $ with us, no problems at all, although we did find it difficult to get hold of enough small $ bills for tips. We just changed some larger $ bills for small peso notes at the hotel. They will accept either at all the shops.

We took a small amount of peso's and mainly american dollars. As with denny.53 we struggled to find smaller $ notes to tip but you tend to get peso's as change when you buy something rather than dollars so we used them instead.

I agree... take a mix, just come back from there and they use both no problems.

Forgot to say... if any notes are torn or bits missing off them the Mexicans won't touch them... nothing wrong with the notes, just a quirk they have. So if you are given any here in UK don't accept them because you won't be able to spend them. We had to tell a fib at the Hotel shop and say we got given a torn note as change and they were forced to take it back.... I know, I know... but we couldn't spend it and we tried, you can't even give them away as tips...
