We've been going for every year since 2002 and I've never seen any or heard of any...

I'd guess its too far north (and less warm) for them fellas.

Hi
I go every year. Its a mixed result. There is moskitos but I suppose it takes a certain set of conditions to make them a problem. Also where exactly you are staying . I went for years without a bite. Then one year out of the blue I was bitten loads of times. The same goes for my other family and not all on the same year.
I read an article about them before I went away last year. It seems that if you eat regular garlic (suppose capsuls would work ) it helps. Also they dont like people with a high level of vitamin B in there blood( Check this one out incase I am not accurate as it is a while since I read it).
The year I was bitten was the year I had had surgery not long before and so could have been my blood was low in whatever the mossies didnt like.
Last year I decided to boost every ones garlic intake as it would do no harm. We all love curries pastas ect and I pile the garlic in any way as we like it. We all tucked into plenty of garlic rich meals before we went away except my youngest who was going through a fussy phase .
The only one who got bit (more like eaten ) was my youngest. So maybe there is somthing in the garlic theory.

A friend of ours who has also been going for years got eaten last year as well, but she always gets eaten.
We usuall go mid sept to mid oct, last year was the first year we had a wet holiday and I think they get worse after a wet spell. We also go in a caravan not as sheltered from them as a hotel. We have been bit in Portadventura theme park.
Something I found helps is making sure they arent lurking safe in air vents out of the sun to then come out at night and bite you in your sleep. This is what was happening to my little boy. I bought a great big can of thir own brand insect and moskito killer. Its really cheap and unlike our sprays smells like air freshner. Each night I would shut the doors and spray into each air vent . It did the trick .
Incase you do get a bite take some of the special plasters you can now get. They are brilliant . You just pop one on as soon as you know you have been bitten . It cools the bite off , stops the pain and the itching and keeps working for atleast 24 hrs. Great fot the kids and easy to carry around with you. I found these worked better than the sprays ect.
