Hi travelmam67,
Yes tried the bands last year but didn't work either.
We take Brewers yeast tablets for a month before we go, use the lemon shower gel, moisturise with the Avon SS, wear mossie bands and use the spray - don't have a problem
lol lanslass, Vicks Vapour Rub is a new one on me ... never heard of that one before, but anything is worth a try if it keeps them at bay :-)

My wife used to use Zest lemon soap, which you cant get now. She uses 4711 eau de colone which helps.

Might be worth your wife having a look. It's not cheap but it is a quality product, I don't know if they still do a 'soap on a rope' version but it always lasted ages.

Aww I remember getting Bronnley gift sets at Xmas when I was a teenager Sma. One of those classic old fashioned makes, think I might actually treat myself to some for old times sake.
Didn't know they were still around

So do I, Doe, which was why I wasn't sure whether they were still around or not. I remember that they used to do a lavender one as well that my godmother used to send me for birthdays some years.
I've got an old herbalists type shop near me, I can't remember them not being there and they go way back before I was born, and they stock Bronnley & Yardleys stuff...also check out Lloyds chemists if you have one, because they sell some Bronnley products.
The soap on a rope is lemon and Neroli - Neroli is an expensive essential oil, so that's what pushes the price up - they do a bar of just lemon soap which is a lot cheaper.

Not totally convienced but love the idea of sitting on the beach getting funny looks whilst covering ourselves in jiff.
No, don't use lemon in the sunshine, whether it be lemon juice or essential oil. Some people put lemon juice on their hair when sun bathing - it will lighten it, but it'll also make it very dry because lemon is an astringent, but don't under any circumstances put it on your skin.
If you're going to use Citronella oil, don't use it neat - mix a few drops with a little bit of cream like aftersun or moisturiser...There are only 2 essential oils that you can use neat on your skin, lavender and Tea Tree oil.
Me, I'm going to stick to Mosquito Milk, a concoction of essential oils and a low percentage of Deet.

Was thinking of getting the pack of three and using them in the shower before we go out for the evening ?
I'm not as unlucky as some with the mossies but the little blighters occasionally nip me round the ankles of an evening as I wear skirts & sandals. Thought the soaps would be nicer than all the spray things I buy in Boots every year which smell yuck (aultcan ? or some such name in a can).
You should be fine with lemon soap. I was replying to a previous poster about applying lemon juice (jiff) on the beach.
If your skin is already sensitive and you want to be super safe, then just use it after you've done sunbathing and for the mozzies at night

I was at the chemist today and they gave me something called Ben's Repellant which is supposed to be amazing. I really hope so, because I'm off to Florida next week and my legs are still healing from the HK bites too
I have read some good reviews about incognito insect repellent, has anyone tried it?

Thanks Sanji. That's what I will do.

Prior to this i would use skin so soft, but it wasn't perfect, this however well I can only say as I find, it is a roll on and you rust roll a strip - I do about six inch on each leg and arm and on top shoulders, it last for hours, at night but a dab here and there. I understand it is from Belguim, and get from chemist direct in uk. It contains some deet but the oils etc give it a pleasant smell
