Just returned after our 3rd trip to the North of Goa so I will share a few things,
Stayed with my in laws who have a small house 5 mins from the most beautiful and quiet beach in Goa, Morjim. Please dont confise this area with the likes of Baga, Calangute etc it is just what Goa should be. Anyway we loved it although my mum in law had a moan about 3 more people using the hot water she had for the washing. Bought our beer etc nearby, 360 rupees for a box of big bottles of Belo beer and 100rup for a box of 12 bottles of water. After 5 days we had spent £70, meals out at local shacks etc. just couldn't spend it.
Treated ourselves to a night in Teracol Fort which is right on the Northern border with India, this place is very select (7 rooms) and very expensive by Goan standards but in our opinion well worth it. It is very luxurious and very quiet aprt from the church in the centre which is used twice a week and is a lovely uplifting experience even for a heathen like me. I even got to drive the packed ferry back across the river !
Had a night at Montego Bay in Morjim which was OK, but food was not that bright.
My 15 yr old son wanted a pool so we had a couple of nights at CSM in Baga, again was good but I can see problems with this area not from the brits but the young groups of Indian lads who have stared hanging around harrasing women and local Goan's on the road nearby. A few sharp words where said which did the trick. Had a meal at Tito's whish was ok, but the best was at Fiesta, this place gets better every year.
Finshed off with a couple of days back with the inlaws, on the final morning watched 20 eagles (or osprey not sure) sitting near the beach waiting to ambush the fishermen as they emptie their nets, was like watching a disney cartoon.
Couple of shacks to metion. Gilberts Reggae shack on Morjim beach as good as ever and this guy is a real gent. Also Alex's shack on Aswem beach again nothing is to much trouble.
Got the blues now and was envious of my in laws who are there until easter. Will be returning later this year fro 2 more weeks of bliss.
To those who haven't tried the far north, all I can say is your missing out big time, great beaches, cheaper prices, no sellers on the beaches its just waht Goa should be.
That "just got back and work tomorrow" isn't a good feeling is it? Enjoyed reading your report and am intrigued by the Teracol Fort stay.
Did you only stay for 1 night in tiracol fort, as last nov I wanted an overnight stay but was told you had to stay a min of 2 nights.
nice report. I wonder how morjim will change over the next few years as more people look for peace and quiet?
Re Teracol it was 8000 rup for the night including evening meal and breakfast, expensive but if you want to feel totally isolated in a bit of luxury this is hard to beat. There is no pool but Keri beach is just across the estuary which is lovely.
