Hi!

This is the new tax brought in by our esteemed Chancellor, Gordon Brown. It effectively doubles the " Air passenger duty from £20 to £ 40 per-person, not sure if it is more expensive still for longer haul flights, One of the main problems with this tax is that it was implemented retrospectively, so although not coming into force until 1 Feb Airlines and tour operators were expected to pay the tax on flights and holidays already booked. This tax should not be mistaken for the £10 visa for entry into Turkey as clearly this is still in place. If I've gotten any of this wrong sure someone will let me know!LOL!

im afraid i dont totally agree with you nyle, as far as i was aware the tax had doubled from £5 to £10 for short haul inc turkey and £20 to £40 long haul, i know i definately only had to pay £5 extra each person for this new tax on my july flights , my package company to turkey for oct havent asked me yet. so please check with them about this. someone else might answer and confirm what ive said

I only had to pay an extra £5 for my flights too, this was on top of the published fares and booked last week.

ELLE meg..and others thanx...i sent an e mail to XL and they confirmed it's £5 per passenger...i got a little confused 'cos in the letter they mentioned Tunisia & Egypt costing an extra £20 but no mention of TURKEY, but they class TURKEY as EUROPE which only attracts another £5... one less drink i suppose :) thanx again everyone....

I've booked flight only with First Choice Airways to Dalaman in May and they wanted £5 per person extra (they are really against it too).

I'm off again in August for a fortnight, flying with Onur Air, but I haven't been asked to cough up any more for that flight..... yet.....
