PANJIM: Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said that the government may proceed with the implementation of its Shack Policy only from the tourism season commencing 2013 so as to make it foolproof and legally watertight.
“We have big plans to implement an effective policy and would not like to hurry with its implementation this year,†he said.
With not much time left for the season to commence this year, the policy is still under drafting and fears are that it may take a while to finalise it.
He said that there was need to nip various malpractices allegedly indulged in by shack operators, and the Tourism Ministry intends designing the policy in a manner to prevent the same.
“We are thinking of issuing shack operators licenses for a period of three years from season 2013,†Parulekar disclose,d adding further that the government also intends designing the shacks as well.
“All shacks will be of the same size, pattern, fabricated of the same material,†he disclosed, adding, “this year we may follow the old system of allotment.â€
Sources told Herald that there were plans to have shack clusters. However there is no clarity on this.
Under the new policy, the shacks, even though licenced for 3 years, will have to be dismantled every year at the end of the season and reassembled at the starting of the new season."
Possibly the biggest draw to Goa is the diversity of all the different shacks, looks like the Goverment doesnt see it that way however
