It appears to be link to a "random" post from somewhere deep in the forums that has so far had any relevance to myself.

If you click the little ? on the tab you can opt out of it popping up again.

Thanks Iain, didn't think of clicking the ? I've just started a new topic asking about the feature:

I think it's a bit intrusive but now that I've opted out it shouldn't be a problem.

thanks again.

I am finding it a real irritation too Shirley, presumably something Van introduced overnight. Every time I choose to visit a topic which I do want to read, I have the annoying pop up recommending dormant topics from 2004 onwards that I have no interest in reading. There is an option to opt out of these recommendations, but it seems not to be working for me as I am still getting the pop ups after selecting and saving that option. Forum pages are slower to open this morning too, so there may well be a connection.

It seems to pop up as you reach the bottom of the page you're reading, I agree, it's rather annoying.

Yes, IE seems to be successful in blocking it, but not Firefox.

Mmmmm, just logged in via firefox and had a look, in it scrolls on the bottom right, not sure what the 'Slide' tab as it won't open.

I looked at a topic in Kenya and get a recommendation to view topic ..............' Left Luggage in Palma Mallorca' :duh

I'm using IE 9 and I'm getting the pop up every time. I have opted out but the opt out obviously isn't working :(

Yes, it seems so completely useless in its present form that I can't help feeling we may still be waiting to see its true potential. Perhaps it takes time to monitor our individual browsing habits in order to build a profile and then only recommend topics on subjects which we have shown an interest in. That may help those who don't use or have trouble using Search. But at the moment, unless it has wonderful features that we are yet to discover instead of just random topics that we have no interest in, it is no more than an annoyance which we are likely to be stuck with until Van is next online to explain how to use or remove.

I hope it gets removed soon. I use the 'new posts' button so I never miss anything I want to see. This feature is nothing but a nuisance. Hopefully it's a trial for Van to see if it's liked. So far, nobody's commented that it's a good thing.

I run NoScript - I've found that if I disallow simplereach.com the pop up is blocked :tup
