The place to be is on the beach, every shack will be open, and at midnight the whole beach is one big fire work display, usually we have something to eat then head for the beach around 10pm, the atmosphere is fantastic,
Yes. New years eve on the beach is absolutely fantastic. Not to be missed. Even better is a swim in the sea and lying on a sunbed on new years day, recovering!!

never been to calangute at new year, but have been baga up the road and it was unbeleivable!
All I can say is someday we will be there on new years eve .. and I live for that that day ...colleen
But my best ever New Year, was on the beach at Candolim, packed with Europeans, Domestic Tourists and lot's of Locals. The atmosphere was magic, the fireworks went on forever, and the display from the Taj hotel, and Mr Mallya's Kingfisher villa amazing.
In the South the only place that comes anywhere close is Colva and mainly Domestic tourists, everywhere else people celebrate in the hotels and restaurants. Cavelossim beach was deserted last year.
I think I might be tempted to go North again one day, for New Year, you can't beat a good party on the Beach
