The place to be is on the beach, every shack will be open, and at midnight the whole beach is one big fire work display, usually we have something to eat then head for the beach around 10pm, the atmosphere is fantastic, :cheers

Yes. New years eve on the beach is absolutely fantastic. Not to be missed. Even better is a swim in the sea and lying on a sunbed on new years day, recovering!! :cheers :cheers

I've never been to Calangute,
But my best ever New Year, was on the beach at Candolim, packed with Europeans, Domestic Tourists and lot's of Locals. The atmosphere was magic, the fireworks went on forever, and the display from the Taj hotel, and Mr Mallya's Kingfisher villa amazing.
In the South the only place that comes anywhere close is Colva and mainly Domestic tourists, everywhere else people celebrate in the hotels and restaurants. Cavelossim beach was deserted last year.
I think I might be tempted to go North again one day, for New Year, you can't beat a good party on the Beach :)

Do you think the beach area around where Ganesh shack in Candolim is situated will be busy on New Years eve ? Looking forward to a good party on the beach to bring in the new year :cheers

we aways go down candolim beach road and turn right as its walking distance from home, not sure of name of shack as we drift, but one has a big dance floor made up!! and the drinks weren't too over inflated for the night as some do ...but we wander a bit too for the atmosphere ,,, but i think most will be busy that night and especially around there as its easy access from the road ... New Year will be brill whatever just dont bother trying to egt taxi's across town!! a non starter!! and beware everyone!! last year we went in Cafe days on our way back from the beach at about 4am for cakes and coffees and were charged double for everything despite no signs or anything telling us..i argued it out with the manager and afetr a good ol row we ended up paying normal rate...I know they do double up prices but they should tell you and then you can make an informed decision but i was furious!!!
