Hi,
I am planning a round the world trip and I am taking in New York around the 2nd November to the 6th November, I thought 4 nights in New York would be nice. But what I need with is what is the BEST area to stay, as I am a single 42 year old female and will be travelling on my own. I would be looking at 4 star hotels maybe 5 star depending on price!! But my main thing is WHAT AREA would be best for me to start looking at hotels.
I wait for your reply

I am off to new york this friday and am staying at the hilton milenium which is just by the ground zero site.

It looks very nice and not to far from the things i want to do.
I will be doing the usual tourist things!!! I am planning 3 full days in new York so will need 4 nights. I want a nice hotel but dont want to be paying an arm and a leg!!! With being a single female most of the evenings I will most likely spend in the hotel apart from a night sight seeing trip!!!
i will check out that hotel and the prices.

Just been looking at hotels and there seems to be a better class of hotel and a lot cheaper on the outskirts of New York nearer to the airports. Would any one suggest this as an option. I dont have a problem with getting a train into New York centre each morning and back in the evening, if I can have a nicer hotel. Any thoughts would be good

I stayed in the Hotel Mela a couple of weeks ago, a brand new boutique hotel, slap bang in the middle of Times Square, I got a great deal using a promotion code I found on the TravelZoo site. If not, try the promo code TZOO on Hotel Mela site as they might still have the offer running. If not, join the travelzoo site and you can see the hotel offers they have available, I got mine for £99 a night!
I would advise somewhere near the Times Square area. This puts you central to most things and it's just plain convenient. If you want to pop back to the hotel during the day you can walk from most places or grab the subway. You need to see Times Square at night also
Found a hotel I like the look of and seems to be ok re area etc it is called Washington Square Hotel and I can get a deluxe room at just over £500 which is great for me.

We stayed at the Time Hotel off of Times Square. Brilliant Hotel, friendly staff great location. See what they charge. It is so easy to get anywhere from there
have a great time

Thanks ill look at that hotel....ive posted another question re how many days in New York...once I find out if 2 FULL days or 3 FULL days would be best then I can work out my budget. As it will be the same budget for 2 or 3 full days so that would alter the class of hotel!!!! If that makes sence. I will be flying into newark Airport as just got all my flights on hold this afternoon.....my FIRST big step on this RTW trip!!!!

no problem.
After having such a long time away from HT due to working away it feels good to be able to contribute again.
will post soon

Gill I'd say 3 full days would be better than 2 as there's so much to see.
as many days as you can afford and spare is best to spend in NYC, we were there for a week last year and I could still have stayed longer. 4/5 nights would be ok for a first visit.
Hotel, anywhere in Midtown would be advisable for your first visit, as long as you are near a subway you can't go wrong. Just check out the hotel reviews here and on trip advisor as there are some manky ones there. Also Nov is a very expensive time for hotels be prepared for scarey prices for 4 or 5 * hotels.
Have a great trip!
