Hi Guys, haven't posted in the USA forum before but some of you may know my name from Lanzarote and Costa Del Sol forums on here.
I am flying into Newark next Friday and will be in NYC with my girlfriend for 4 nights , (1st time ) I've been doing some research on line and I think we will have a great time. I was just wondering what people thought was the best option for airport transfers, hotel in NYC ( as I have yet to book that, been hanging on for the prices to come down) and if anyone had a particular favourite place to recommend for food
Thanks guys, all suggestions appreciated
Danny
NYC hotels fill up quick and fast in advance and prices very very rarely come down.
You will be very limited for choice now, but should be ok as long as you are not picky. I would search the last minute.com type of sites. also try priceline.com there are a few more also but the name escapes me. If you search on this forum...

the other bidding sites are listed there
if you search on this forum I have done 2 NYC trip reports and there are many others which will list lots of advice and tips including many useful links.
Have a look at this link for transport options from EWR...

Hi Danny, Travelzoo often have great last minute discounts on hotels.
thats the site! thanks Puddleduck!
I have as yet no hotel booked, but have been checking them daily to see availability etc there is always plenty, so thought I would leave it as late as possible
Thanks again
Danny
Make sure you check out the reviews of the hotel you choose as there are some very dingy hotels in NYC.
Go on tavel zoo, when you get to the main which country are you in? on the main page go for travel zoo usa and look on the New York hotel list and there are loads of bargains for the next couple of months. Just don't go on the UK travelzoo (even though its good normally) as the usa one has the really good deals
This is a great search engine: http://www.sidestep.com/hotels
One thing, if you see: Woogo Lincoln Centre Apartments give them a miss, I have no personal experience, but aware of a site dedicated to these apartments.
We have visited NY 7 times, and will be returning again in 5 weeks.
I'm sure you will receive all the assistance you require from this site, however, if I can assist you any further don't hesitate to ask.

Avoid Woogo at all costs, search for them on trip advisor and you will see why.
Driver hope you have a good trip in 5 weeks!

Thanks again,, ps, don't suppose anyone can reccomend a good Italian and Mexican can they ?
Thanks
Danny
http://www.menupages.com it lists restaurants by type and area, there are also reviews on there but not sure how genuine they are.
Carmines in midtown and one on UWS get good reviews, big portions. If your looking for pizza (yum!) Lombardis, Johns and Grimaldis gets my vote!
I got a lot of restaurant advice over on Trip Advisor for when we were there in Oct. We ate quite a few times over on 9th Avenue (hells kitchen area).
if you are looking to book somewhere special then you can do so through http://www.opentable.com if its a popular restaurant like Carmines then def book in advance. We didn't pre book any restaurants as didn't want to be tied down to a time for eating.

hi jaimec
Perhaps I'm thinking of a different Hell's Kitchen, but I thought that was one of Gordon Ramsey's restaurants? More to the point, the one they use in the TV series is actually in LA... but maybe he has others, including one in NY?
Sorry I meant the Hells Kitchen area just to the west of Midtown. We stayed in the Belvedere on 48th/8th so it was all within walking distance for us.
Though Gordon Ramsey has just opened this restaurant in Manhattan...

I booked into the Millenium UN Plaza hotel, having a pool was a factor for unwinding after a long day or that early morning dip. The majority of reviews I've read were very favourable and it's supposed to be fairly close to most things, within a mile or so. Can't wait, Fri morning !,
Thanks again for all the help, will let you know what I thought when I get back
Danny
Have a fab time Danny, looking forward to your trip report
