Metro Card info here - http://www.mta.info/metrocard/ - it's probably best to work out where you'll be going and how often you'd use it to see if it's worthwhile. We thought about it and then decided not to and actually with the exception of catching the subway to Brooklyn and an occasional cab (when feet were tired) we walked everywhere else.

thank you, i have seen there website but the directions by bus are excursions i was wandering if i can go myself and the metro i cant understand if they go to there

thank you i found it, the price of the train to do it ourselves is similar priced to the excursions so i will have a think about that one and whether its worthwhile
