Any ideas wether a taxi would be cheaper than 100 pounds for airport parking + petrol for two weeks. The taxi would have to be return from Redcar/Middlesbrough/Taxi???
Thanks

Why not ring and see if the parking offer is still on that is mentioned earlier in this thread.

If anyone is looking for parking at Newcastle airport there was an offer in the local paper last night.
On site parking 1 week for £29.00 2 weeks for £44.00. We booked for 1 week in June for £29.00 plus I think it was £1.00 CC charge.

Does anyone know if the parking ffer is still advertised for newcastle airport? We used he two week offer twice this year and it was £44 each time. Would be great if still available and we could book for next year. :que

Is anyone aware of the status of the new 'on site' Hotel at Newcastle Airport. It's still described as 'opening summer 2009' on the airport's website. Is it a Marriott hotel?

Don't know what it is but I do know that unless they get a rather rapid move on there's no way it'll be ready anytime soon! Last time I was past (a couple of weeks ago) it looked nowhere near done.

I was under the initital impression it was to be a Ramada (and the link suggests this too)

The hotel itself is currently in limbo as the developer was declared bankrupt but the airport insisted there'd be no problems though its clear to me having passed several times in the past few months that tools have been downed

Much to the delight of the Premier Inn and Britannia no doubt

Here's a link to the journal report on the developer going kaput

Thanks for the info folks. It looks like the Britannia again then.

Drove past today and outside looks pretty much done but couldn't see much in the way of anything inside. Did notice a new Shell garage within airport (to left as you drive in) which was lower than local Shell garage in Westerhope. Would never have thought an airport would need a petrol station on-site but actually Igarage
now I know it's there will probably use it myself quite a lot.

Had missed article in Journal/Chronicle - will be interested to see what happens. Premier Inn and Britannia must be clapping their hands with glee.

It's officially unconfirmed but all the local press this morning are reporting the Hilton Group will take the Newcastle Airport Hotel.

The initial group Ramada has confirmed it has pulled out of the deal

A statement from Hilton said

Tell you what tho' it's a flaming ugly building - will try and take a pic next time we drive past and post it - personally I think I'd prefer the Premier Inn.

I take it there's still no designated smoking area airside at Newcastle?

Depends when you are going

You've got the Premier Inn and Britannia on site, both with car parking facilities.

There's a Premier Inn further out (at Kingston Park) and a Novotel, not sure if they operate transfer services

There's 2 Premier Inn's in close proximity to the airport - first in Newcastle Airport which is literally on the doorstep and then there's another (Newcastle Aiport South) a couple of miles down the road at Callerton next to Callerton Metro Station - I *think* they do secure parking and you can just hop on the metro straight into the airport. There's a pub attached called the Wheatsheaf which do canny meals.

Then there's the Britannia on the other side of the airport and then up towards Kingston Park you have an Innkeepers Lodge (Toby Carvery) and Novotel plus one of those cheapo ones (used to be Formule 1 not sure of new name). Innkeepers Lodge doesn't have secure parking, Novotel does but not sure it could be used whilst you aren't there.

There are a couple of car parking places - Bellair being one of them and one to the back of the closest Premier Inn - but having seen the way they're packed in whilst driving along the Jedburgh road I personally wouldn't be keen - sardines spring to mind!

Hi,
Anyone used Callerton Parking? ussually just park on airport but they were £20 less for the 2 weeks.
Was also thinking of staying overnight with parking, but can't find anywhere with rooms for 5. Is there such a hotel?

I have complained bitterly at times about the arrivals service at Newcastle and flying in on a half empty Wideroe flight last week I again waited a small lifetime for luggage (which turned op on a different carousel!) but I'm just going to post some small positives mainly about departures

Check in, as usual, was fast and efficient. Security did a job with a smile on the face and managed the queues well and overall made a good impression

airside facilites were coping well (a mammoth queue in WHSmith was well managed) and prices weren't too horrific.

The toilets were clean and there was plenty of 'em. Restaurant staff were quick and there's plenty of seating. Pre-departure screens were clear, updated well and announcements were made alongside them

If they could get the arrival facilities right then I'd be converted back to a happy passenger because they've finally turned the corner on everything else
