Hi trasjohno

We went to Can Picafort last year and yes there is a Doctor surgery near to Burger King, its a white building with a red crossed sign to the side of the building. We stayed at the Africamar apartments, and it is at this end of the resort. Hope you have a healthy holiday

I doubt if that doctors would accept the E11/EHIC CARD as most doctors are private & will ask for a fee up front before even seeing you. I see to remember somebody telling me in Majorca you would likely have to go to Palma to find a doctor/hospital that would take the e111/ehic. I would suggest you make sure you have adequate travel insurance especially as the E111 would not cover repatriation if it was needed which could cost many thousands of pounds. You could try http://www.moneysupermarket.com which has a comparison search of travel insurance policies.

i seem to remember from when i worked in alcudia that the hospital in alcudia old town takes the e111, but best thing is to make sure your insurance covers you then you don't need to drag yourself all over the place if you're under the weather

i have just fell pray to this. my 4 yr old was very ill so i asked the rep who told me the dr comes and book at reception which i did. Dr came charged 70 euros drugs 15 euros, said e111 not accepted. on return to Uk my first choice insurance has a 75 excess!. ive learnt my lesson i will do my homework next time. ive looked on websites but there is little info as to where to find them. i know there is a hospital in Manacor not sure how long that would take. i think like everyone else its best to get good insurance cover then you dont have to worry.

good luck

E111 will normally only be accepted by 'local' doctors surgeries and 'state'hospitals. The local doctors surgeries have a blue cross outside - the red cross are the private medical centres.

In my experience of living here I would recommend taking out private insurance - that way you will get to see a doctor who will at least speak some english - you may not at the local 'state' centres, and if you keep all receipts you can take up with the ins company on your return.

For minor ailments, the chemists on the island are excellent, and you can get antibiotics over the counter.
