No Cyprus for us this year, either!
That'll be 2 years in a row!

I'm beginning to wish we'd booked half board or AI instead os SC. I felt like I missed out on some lovely restaurants last time.
It's gonna be doubly expensive for us this year as we are getting married too. :(

we were booked for the olympic lagoon but AI in turkey for us five will be half the price of that

@ CazzMicknTom hope for your sake it does not cost you to much
there is not a lot you can do if you have booked to get married there other than have a wonderfull time
hope it goes well

Such a shame. I think this is going to be the case for a lot of people. I've been for the last 9 years, sometimes three times a year when I had a bit of spare money but the economic crisis really is biting hard in the UK and I am now on a 4 day week. I have to admit I am dreading the cost this year. Paid for flights last October because they were very reasonable but didn't pay for my apartment - big mistake owing to the poor performance of the pound now. Could well be bread and cheese on the beach this year!

Cyprus is my favourite holiday destination and me and my girlfriend were considering it again when booking for this year but with the poor exchange rate we opted for Turkey. Luckily I've still got a long weekend with the lads booked for July so won't miss out completely. For anyone not going this year, try and look on the bright side - you'll appreciate the place even more when you finally get round to going back!

Same for us too, we have been going for over 8 years, but really can't afford to this year. We usually rent a villa and do our own flights, but it just isn't on.

Hi

Thank goodness we've booked AI,we're looking forward to going but realise that it will be quite expensive,we usually go to Ibiza which is not cheap but thought we'd have a change this year.We booked during last summer before the credit crunch was really being felt.

We did AI last year and realised we were missing the thing we love about Cpyrus, exploring the places, finding new places to eat etc...

this year... well... I'm not planning on AI again... I think I'd rather miss a holiday rather than waste one......

I know it's a personal choice but with a child who is not very adventurous with food we find it's the best way.If we were going on our own I would go sc.T.

We have flights booked for April, but are considering spending all or part of the week in the North. We usually manage another holiday to Cyprus Sept/Oct time but I think for this year we might try somewhere else. Maybe Turkey or the USA, but then again I do so love the warm sea in Cyprus during the autumn....perhaps the exchange rate will improve before then.

With all the work thats being put into the economy in the UK you'd hope things would improve !

im gutted really, been for the last four years but daughter is due to start secondary school so we cant go in september as usual. my wifey thinks not only will august be too hot( me thinks its never too hot!) but she thinks are chances of getting plenty of songs in at the zodiac karoake bar will be seriously diminished too :(
we are looking at calla millor in majorca at moment which has great reviews and may be just a few degrees cooler for the kids.
going to miss protaras though :cry

Och sorry to hear that Dave. :cry

We are actually the opposite now. Our oldest starts university late September so we are able to go earlier than our usual October ,as we are back in Protaras 2nd-16th September (although this will be her last time away with the 'old square parents').
Our youngest starts 2nd year at secondary late August, but she's okay with missing school - as she usually misses a week in October anyway and just means she has longer to 'catch up').
Unfortunately, wife and my holiday times are restricted as we both work in local jobcentre and due to current climate :yikes we are rather busy (to say the least) at present.. :duh

After a lot of though, we thought sod it! and have booked again for Cyprus, I know the exchange rate
is poor but just means we will have to save a lot harder, couldn't bare to think of not going to Cyprus,
we have been visiting every year since 97, we stay at the Capo Bay so are really looking forward to seeing the new rooms.

Very much doubt i'll be going this year, after the last 4 years on the trot!
Last year i spent £2000 in two weeks and that was when the euro was at 1.23.... God knows what i'd spend with it now virtually 1 for 1
:yikes

It may be worth hanging fire before booking.

Hotels are reporting fairly big drops in bookings (20 percent or more at the moment) while UK tour operators are asking for discounts so that they can make the price more attractive.
With oil at sensible prices again you're unlikely to get hit by airline fuel surcharges.

I think we could see some fairly heavy discounts as the main season gets under way - better for hoteliers and tour operators to recover some costs rather than have empty hotel room and half empty flights.

Don't know about one for one with the euro though. The way it's going we could see the pound fall below one euro!

I'm going to miss Cyprus this year too, we had hoped to get back May/June but the prices were high from Belfast, so we have booked AI in the Dominican Republic instead.

After not getting our holiday last year in the end (had to cancel) I was looking forward to going back but the exchange rate just made it unaffordable :cry

No Cyprus for us either :(

We spent an absolute fortune when we went in June last yr and that was with a better euro rate :cry Cost £1500 for 2 adults and 1 child to get there then about 2k in spends.

I hope the euro gets better or we'll never be seeing cyprus again....bring back the cyp£ :cheers

The exchange rate against the Cypriot pound would still be bad even if it was back......
