This is the Turkey forum, Bulgaria is further up .. So you prefer Bulgaria then, bet your not alone. If it came to listing the pro's and con's would Bulgaria really beat Turkey when everything is taken into consideration. I don't know as I have never been to Bulgaria but it must have something as it is so popular. I think though prices will rise quickly with entry to the EU. End of the day it must be some place if it beats Turkey.

Hi happymackem, Sorry to hear you feel this way, having said that, Gumbet is not the be all and end all. There are loads more resorts in Turkey that are far superior to Gumbet. When we were going to Gumbet, some of our friends told us that it was the Blackpool of Turkey and they were right !! We only went because the wife is a culture vulture and so visited The Mauseoleum and Bodrum Castle as well as visiting the historical sites of Kos. Consequently we've not been back but we have done other resorts in Turkey since. This September sees us taking our seventh holiday in Turkey in six years.

Prior to this, we had been spoilt by having been to Icmeler which is ten minutes dolmus ride from Marmaris. So please, don't be too hasty to be jumping on the next plane back to Bulgaria. Wishing you all the best for future holidays.

I went to Nessebar in Bulgaria 2 years ago and really enjoyed it as the town reminded me of Turkey.I went into Sunny beach and can see why people enjoy it but the ladies of the night and the awful custom men at Bougas put me off ever returning.I thought Side was my favourite resort but after visitng Icmeler last May from Marmaris I have been back twice since then and am looking forward to my next visit which cant come soon enough.I think if Happy mackem tried Icmeler he would really like it as its the only place Ive been that makes you want to return.From one really happy mackem!

i know turkey beaches are not to everyones liking,mine included ,but turkey as so much more to offer,we go about 6 or 7 times a year staying at both marmaris and icmeler,often get a cheap package just for the flight ,9 times out of 10 we move accomadation, im sure if happy mackem tried a different resort he would feel better about turkey,if i want nice golden beaches il go to goa now compare that with bulgaria, no comparison

I've been to Bulgaria twice. Once to sunny Beach and once to Golden sands.
The people are lovely. The beach (G.S) was fantastic.
I have only been to Turkey once, to Icmeler. For me there is no comparison. Icmeler wins
The beach isn't as good as either of the beaches I have seen in Bulgaria. But the views are better.
The food is a million times better in Turkey and the people are just as lovely.

we went to sunnybeach bulgaria last year but were going back to bodrum bulgaria is cheap enough but not a patch on turkey cheers ian the saint

We went to Bulgaria beggining of June and i can honestly say i will never go back to there as long as i live!

1. Club candan is never 4* in a million years
2. Didnt find the locals friendly
3. Drove out by a taxi driver to main centre agreed 12 lev fare, went a different route then surrounded by other taxi men in the car and forced to pay 100 lev, not nice for two 22 year old girls!
4. Didnt find the hygiene in the eateries good, 3 different places we went we found flys in the food
5. Our transfer out of resort didnt turn up(first choice), so we had to make our own way to Bourgas
6. Charged 60 sterling for being 3kg over baggage allowance
7. When transfered from the terminal to the plane there was a fault with the toilets so we was then kept on a bus no air conditioning, windows open etc sweltering for 30 minutes bear in mind people were banging on the doorsfor them to let us out etc and still we wasnt allowed off or took back to the terminal
8. My boyfriends dad suffered an angina attack mid flight and needed oxygen yet he was just given the oxygen bottle to pump for himself and wouldnt let any relatives down the plain to sit with him.

So guess what we came back and booked to go to Turkey Wednesday!

wow sorry i have offended anyone but now i have been would never call turkey as i also think it is a fantastic holiday retreat i was only saying that in my humble opinion it isnt as good as my first love bulgaria
so once again sorry
and can i also say that yes i would go back to turkey as i found nothing apart from the beach in gumbet poor had a great time

every one is allowed an opion thats what forums are about thanks for your posting, bulgaria may be worth a try some day

happymackem, I totally agree with your comments regarding Beaches and how cheaper it is and the 4 hour flight, Gumbet is expensive in comparison to Bulgaria, Try Icmeler where you will probably get a Breakfast for £1 and a 5 course meal for £6.99, Now if you can get them prices in Bulgaria pass them on to me Please.

Your pushing your luck on free drinks as well, but you will probably be offered complimentary tea or coffee after your meal.

If you ask politely you will get your 1st Drink free also in many Restauraunts, It really depends on how busy it is, If they need your trade you will get it, If they are to busy you wont.

cos i reckon if you go into the country (not tourist areas) in bulgaria you could probably get it cheaper
but you probably could in turkey too

we go to a little restaurant we know well in not such a popular uk tourist place but certainly a lot of turkish tourists go there and we get a 3 course meal and free lavash (hot bread) for 3 of us inc 2 drinks each, hubby 2 beers daughter and myself 2 lemonades each and the total for 3 of us is only about £8. if you eat in none tourist places in turkey its extremely cheap to eat out

i go to a bar in fethiye were you buy your drinks and they give you a dinner free,
