The weather in the Canaries is usually good in February but I think Egypt's Red Sea Resorts would be the best bet.

as above any of the Canaries for the sun, but for the ciggies is only 200 per person, of course you can always take the risk of bringing more, but don't tell customs i said that

Canary Islands, Egypt or Cape Verde are all 4-5½ hour flights, and all have good weather during our winter :sun
If you're thinking of doing a ciggie run however, none of these places are in the EU so you'll only be allowed to bring back 200 cigs per person. There's nowhere within the EU that will have guaranteed good weather in winter.

warmest eec destination would be Cyprus.. and full ciggi allowance

I thought the weather in Cyprus would be hit and miss in February. The Canaries, Cape Verde and Egypt would be morelikely for Sun.

I do not think you have the guarranteed sun in Cyprus in February. Morocco also I thought not quite far enough south, weather should be pleasant. Gambia should be fine.

We've spent a few February half terms in the Canaries over the years and had varied weather. Last year we tried Egypt (Sharm) for the first time and were amazed by how much better the weather was. We barely saw a cloud in a week and it was hot during the day, though quite cool in the evenings. We have booked to go back to Egypt again next Feb and will probably do so the year after too!

Thanks for your replies.. know weather will be best in gambia or egypt.. but could be going with friends and one of whom hates flying big time.. so anyone tell me which canary island would be safest bet for sunshine.. thanks.. :tup ;) :tup

From our experiences in the Canaries in the early part of the year, we had the best weather in Fuerteventura.

Egypt is only another hours flying time further than the Canaries - well worth suffering that extra hour for guaranteed sunshine! The last time we went to the Canaries in February (Tenerife) the weather was cloudy the whole time and temperatures struggled to reach 68 degrees. We ended up buying sweatshirts to keep warm!

I've only been to Fuerteventura in February and I wouldn't go that time of year again. Spent too many days on the sunbed with my towel wrapped around me for warmth! :yikes

Last 2 replies have confirmed what i was thinking about the weather.. 2 options left.... go later in the year or get my mate to have a couple of glasses of wine before flying. . for medicinal puposes obviously..p.s. we are going with hubbies but they dont mind flying.does that mean they should pay for pre boarding wine?????.. :rofl :rofl :cheers

Choose the wine option and head for the Red Sea ;)

Sweepy,We went to Sharm last November and it took 4hours 48minutes from Gatwick.I have been to all the Canary Islands and they take up to 4 and a half hours so there is not that much difference.
I would choose Sharm over all the Canaries as they have the dreaded euro which is very low at the moment.
