Where is Oberaudorf?

Is it down near the Austrian border?

That may be Oberstdorf then? It's a winter resort, so I would imagine the prices would be steep. Plus, living in a deep Bavarian town as a foreigner would not be easy.

I've found Oberaudorf on the map it's near the border with Austria just north of Kufstein. Property in Germany is not normally as expensive as the UK, though property in Alpine resorts is a lot more expensive than the rest of the country. It really depends what your son plans to do, if he is going to live there, no problem, but to buy as an investment is not a good idea. The German property market is very flat, lots of people rent property and never consider buying. If they do buy they hold on to the property for most of their life. Rarely moving apart from perhaps buying a flat when they retire. I've lived in Bavaria for the last 35yrs. When I bought my house in 1979 I paid double the price of what a friend in England paid for her house of a similar size. The value of my house is not yet worth double what I origionally paid for it. My friend just sold hers in the UK for almost 5 times what she paid. So property here is not a very good investment.
I don't see any problem for your son living in Bavaria, he must learn the language though if he doesn't already speak it.

Judith,

Thank you for your comments.

My son will use the apartment, with his siblings, for holidays only.

Winter sports and hill walking in the summer.

It is not just an investment.

Have you ever been to the particular area?

I think my son has business connections with a firm in the area.

I wonder what size is the local population?

Help is appreciated,

Billyboy.

I don't think I have ever been to Oberaudorf, must have driven quite close to it a few times though when going to Kufstein and Kitzbühel skiing. I would imagine it is only a small village. The whole area is very pretty.
Sorry I can't be of much help, I live much more further east and it's an area that I rarely visit.
There is a website for the village. http://www.Oberaudorf.de
