How many miles are you away Mixter?

We do about 265 miles to Cornwall and it takes us about 4 - 4 1/2 hours.
Torquays 330. It took us about 9 hours last time...but the car wouldnt go above about 55! :rofl

We are on the wrong side of Brum as well, which can really slow you up if you hit it wrong.

Well we live north Manchester and went to St Ives for the 1st time this June.
I wasnt looking forward to the long journey but a cousin who has relatives in Cornwall and goes down regularly gave us some good advice - she told us to set off about 3.00am Sunday morning, motorways really quiet and NO early morning lorries, we stopped every 2 hours and changed drivers so neither of us got too bored, we also took own sandwiches and drinks so no queueing for rubbish food at motorway services so it was brilliant, really quiet on the roads and lovely views we could admire over Bodmin moor on the way. We were outside the apartment before 9.00am.Sunday.

We loved St Ives, especially Carbis bay, but the weather made it, it was in 70's.

Wouldnt hesitate now about doing it again that way, coming home we did the reverse, set off 7.00pm Sat night - seemed to be only Tesco lorries on roads - same stops every 2 hours and got home 1.00am after big delay due to massive roadworks in Cheshire on M6. Grrrrr

Hopefully the journey down here will improve further by next summer. At the moment work is underway on that dreadful Gossmoor section of the A30 which is finally being by-passed.
If you've ever been stuck in traffic there (usually due to a lorry trying to get under the low bridge without thinking about the height limit!) you'll know what I mean.

Yes, we got held up there for a while in July, someone had crashed into the darned bridge AGAIN, seems to be a regular occurrence, and nearly always when we`re on our way down.

That section can get ridiculous.
The worst I've seen it was when a lorry crashed into the bridge and the police set up a diversion. Within 20 minutes another lorry had crashed on the diverted route!!

That bridge seems to act like a flippin` magnet, it`s the only blot on the otherwise good A30, but it won`t stop us coming down there, we adore Cornwall, have done for more years than I care to remember.

I swear there is something wedged under that bridge at least once a week

I was beginning to think it was just when we were down there!

Well the latest news is that the future of Newquay airport is now in question as looks like the RAF are scaling down their presence there.
Typical isn't it.....we get a half decent selection of flights from people like RyanAir at very realistic fares too, I should add, and then they close the place!!

Hope they get on with the A30 improvements....

Cornwall is also a best place for kids to holiday in summer.
Kids have fun like riding horses, swimming, surfing, playing tennis and beach Volleyball, eating their delicious foods and living in cottages.
