It is possible to hire a car in the village, several companies around though i normally use Lindos Suntours as i've always had decent cars from them. Depending on how busy it is they often have special offers such as 3 days for the price of 2, etc.

How long to hire a car? Well Rhodes is a fairly small island and you can drive all the way around it in a day so i'd say 3-4 days car hire is usually plenty.

Prices - Well yes the poor rate we're getting at the moment does make a difference and Lindos has never been a cheap destination. Still cheaper than a night out in the uk anyway!

Worth staying in Rhodes Town for the night - definitely. I always book a night in Rhodes Town if i'm over for 2 weeks, if you want a night out drinking it's often cheaper than taxis and you've got the following day for shopping/sightseeing. Alexia Hotel is in a pretty good spot, literally on Bar Street and 10 mins walk from the harbour and Old Town. I stayed in Als Hotel this year which, though a little further from Bar Street is still close to the harbour and amazing value for money.

Lindos View is in a great position at the top of the village. Your calf muscles will hurt for a few days but it quickly settles down
I just loved Lindos- beautiful place and some lovely restaurants and bars in traditional buildings.
