Can anyone give any advice regarding traveling to Sri Lanka beginning of Feb I am going with my mother in law her first trip long haul. I am staying at the mount Lavinia. Has anyone been there recently and seen how the situation is.
Cheers
Noo
I am in a similar situation to you , I am booking in the morning for two weeks in august.
I have checked on the FCO site and to be honest it doesnt seem to be any more worrying than a lot of other places Eygpt for example.
The north and east of the island sound as if they would be wise to avoid though.
Cheers Martin.
The Mount Lavinia is in a quiet suburb of Colombo and well away from the recent troubles. We were slightly worried about the political situation when we went in June 2005 but ended up having a lovely holiday. There are such situations in many countries, just think of the London Underground bombs of 7/7, so if the FCO are not advising against travel then it's likely you will have no problems.
Thanks for your replys, I think your right about the same as other places.
