Old Sharm

I love it... it's real egypt. That means uneven roads, real people and working town shops as well as tourist streets. There is a mall as well.

The miles of hotels are just like any other med resort and do not reflect the real country at all.

There are lots of restraurants and coffee bars and teh shopping is chaeper. Don't take an egyptian with you, they will take comission of up to 50%, they get the money after you have gone!

Fruit, t shirts, cds, jewellery is cheaper.

Go at about 6.00pm if you are nervous, its cooler, and not so dark.

I loved Old Sharm. It's full of character and appeared more Egyptian than Naama Bay. If you like your 'foreign' watered down then you may prefer Naama Bay.

What rubbish

Old Sharm is real Egypt not sanitised for the tourists

the people there are so friendly

remember they want you to buy in their shop

and as you are a tourist you've got a lot of money (in their eyes 'cos they couldn't afford a holiday in a foreign country)

they want you to buy in EVERY shop so they are very friendly sometimes TOO friendly

agree with all that! We loved it but at the same time it is very different and having two teenage girls with us they kept getting talked into various shops, as I did I have to say!! They also got asked out hundreds of times, and I could have swopped both for several camels!!(not a bad idea as it happens!!)

You have to be aware of whats happening, it is a very different culture, and we are very rich in comparison. Be friendly, alert and not scared to barter or say no ( I am rubbish at bartering!). It is a fascinating place and an experience we wouldn't have missed for the world.

There is a great picture of one of my girls in the CSR gallery in Old Sharm dressed in one of the head dresses, looks happy enough to me!

Incidently the only real hassle we had was in a perfume shop in Naama Bay, in the back streets, where we managed to get locked in!!
