Hi Sliema2,

I agree with what you say. We have always said that you do feel safe in Malta and we've never had any kind of aggro. It's only when you go to other places that you realise that it's not the same as Malta as far as feeling safe is concerned!

As an example we went to Tunisia, another close neighbour to Malta, a couple of years ago and hated the feeling of not being 'safe'. We visited a place called Souse and it was really frightening. Mrs bhm was quite concerned that there seemed to be just blokes roaming around and hardly any women!

I'm afraid Tunisia's not our scene but there are other places such as Cyprus and Crete in the Med that we have enjoyed visiting. Must be the island thing!!!!

That is one of the reasons why my Mum goes to Malta at least twice a year - sometimes on her own - she is nearly 81!! She goes out and about on the buses and walks miles often by herself. She loves it and if she was younger she would go and live there!!

Hi Trev & Pippa, thank you both for your replies, Trev I think that you are right in what you say about it being an island thing, when ever we have been to one of the Greek islands we have always enjoyed it and had a good time, the cities of Tuscany were surprisingly big and quite oppressive at times, Pisa is quite small and semi quaint in parts, but as I said in my original posting give me Valletta any day, wonderfull place, great buildings and scenery, oh how I miss looking over Grand Harbour towards the Cottonera, nothing can beat that magnificent view, I missed it this week as we would normally of been in Malta for our wedding anniversary as that is where we spent our first, oh well live and learn, Italy was quite good but no where as good as Malta and certainly no where near as much fun, we are back in Sliema for 10 days in early September then again for a week in the Marina Hotel in November so can't complain really.

Ciao for now

Hi Sliema2,

Shock-horror! (only joking). So you're staying in the Marina in November? As you know we're there for a couple of weeks in August and I reckon if you like Sliema it's got to be in one of the best positions.

Pippa - It was great to hear that your mom loves to go to Malta and like us find it a safe place to visit. I have to say that when our son was a young child we were perfectly happy to take him to Malta. I was quite happy for both my wife and son to go out wherever on their own and I can't say that about some other destinations we visited!

Hi Trevor, we are back in Malta early September then again staying at the Marina in November, we can't stay in our usual place then so this will be a really good substitute, the thing that swung it for us was when we popped in to take a look in February the staff were very friendly and helpfull, as you said that area of Sliema is nice and with views over Marsamxetto to Valletta it should be wonderfull, I would however appreciate a full and frank review from your stay.

Regards

Hi Sliema2,

Believe me mate I'll certainly give you a full, frank and honest review of this hotel, 'warts and all' if you know what I mean. After saying that I'm not expecting any particular problems since as you know I also visited during Feb and we had an escorted tour and viewing of a couple of rooms and we were reasonably happy.

Like you we've stayed at lots of different places self catering as well as hotels, and can't say we've ever had bad accomodation so far!
