Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with this...there is a group of 4 of us going to Paxos for a week in September, and as we are getting Easy Jet flights to Corfu we need to stay overnight on the island, as near to the port as possible. There is Hotel Atlantis right in the port, but the cheapest this will be in early September is £80 per room, which isn't extortionate but is a bit over budget for us. I seem to be having difficulty booking other hotels in Corfu Town, as many of them say they won't accept a 1 night booking.
I have found some very cheap hotels in Gouvia who do seem to accept 1 night bookings, and wondered how long it would really take us to travel to the port in the morning from there. Websites say anything from 15-30 mins to the airport...but never having been to Corfu I don't know the traffic situation and don't know if I should add a bit on to get to the port? Also I don't know what to expect as a taxi fare for this kind of distance?
Considering the ferrry we'd like to get is 8.15am and then there's nothing until 1.30pm... ideally the closer to the port the better...does anyone know of any cheap hotels which would/might accept a 1 night booking?
Also, has anyone stayed at Angela Hotel in Gouvia...this was the cheapest I could find and it looks quite pleasant on the website. No horror stories about it from anyone I hope?
Any help appreciated,
Thanks,
Jayne
Hi there, I'd stay in Corfu Town if I was you - it's a beautiful town, lots of lovely shops, good restaurants. The above hotel (Hotel Dalia) is €90 a room (sleeps 2), which isn't bad at all - now I don't know what the standard is, or seen reviews, but I'm sure you'll find some here. If this isn't suitable, have a look at some other properties on http://www.booking.com or http://www.medhotels.com and http://www.alpharooms.com

Thanks for the tip off about The Dalis Annie, very helpful.
Alternatively dump your luggage somewhere and spend the night clubbing (the clubs are close to the port) and get the first ferry in the morning.
PS. When you say ferry do you mean the ferry that goes via the mainland or the hydrofoil which is about three hours faster?
thanks for the tips, but we can't go to Paxos on the Sunday as the villa won't be ready until Monday. The reason we're arriving a day earlier is that Easy Jet only fly once a day in the evening, but the flights are substantially cheaper than flying with a package airline. It's still cost effective for us to stay a night in Corfu than fly with Thomas Cook or whoever.
We're catching the hydrofoil, the 55 min trip.
Thanks anyway, I've booked in the Dalia now.
