We've been to Cyprus before, to Protaras, but fancy trying Paphos this time. If we go in September or early October will there be plenty for us to do - we like a good selection of bars and restaurants, as we usually go self catering. Anyone have any recommendations for good 3 star or above apts?

Paphos or Pafos has over 720 bars and restaurants at the last count, it is open all year with some exceptions, of course later in the season there are less tourist's so it will become quieter than in the height of the season, but even in the depths of darkest winter here there is always a bar with lights on!! Kato Pafos is a lively resort all year, with those exceptions..

As for hotel/apartments recommendations I should check out HT ..most hotels/apartments here are of a good standard.

Have a good stay.

Why not have a look through our hotel reviews here.

I would recommend Apollonia Apartments, they are close to bar street, so it's not far to walk anywhere. They are very nice, well kept etc.

In paphos do they have anything for children like trampolines/bouncy castles or go carts ?

Hi,

There are a few bars which have bouncy castles to keep the children entertained.

There is also a Go-Karting Track which is excellent opposite the waterpark in Paphos. IT's a very good track but is quite pricey (but then this is also expensive in England). They have kids go karts there too and a big bouncy castle.

The Mini-Golf course is next to the Go-karting track and our children love this.

Hi

Me and my partner (22,24) are going paphos 9th Sept. We are staying at Kefalos beach village. Ive heard a lot of good reviews of paphos but also a fair share of bad. Never been to Cyprus before. I didnt realise when i booked that the beaches are not to good, is there still somewhere were you can do a few watersports?

Weve booked a full day supreme boat trip direct through Paphos sea cruises. Has anyone been on this yet?

We both enjoy eating out in nice restaurants, is the harbour area best for restaurants? and how far is bar street from the harbour.

I believe Kefalos is halfway between coral bay and the harbour, so i wouldnt know if this location is ideal. I have read reviews on Kefalos but has anyone been here recently.

Thanks everyone

Hi,

There are several places in Paphos where you can do allsorts of watersports.

You can walk to the harbour from the Kefalos beach along the coastal path which is lovely especially around sunset time. I'm guessing from there it would probably take you around 30 mins maybe a little more to get to the harbour depending on how fast you walk.

Alternatively, you can walk up to Tombs of the Kings Road (2 mins walk from the Kefalos beach) and catch the bus - 80 c each and the buses are very regular and run till appx. 11:00pm in the summer which includes September. Later than that you can catch a taxi which would be around CYP4 to the Kefalos beach from the harbour.

There is a beach close to the Kefalos Beach apartments but the best beach is at Coral Bay. Again, you can catch a bus from Tombs of the Kings Road to Coral Bay right to the beach for 80 c each. It's the opposite direction to the harbour.

There are lots of good restaurants but the harbour can be quite pricey because you are paying for the location. There are some reasonable ones there too.

Bar Street is appx. 10 min walk from the harbour.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Guys,

I'm after some info regarding Papos in October.

Firstly, is it ok to assume that the normal summer holiday type activites will be ok to do concidering weather at that time of year?

Secondly, is the resort winding down at this time or is it still in full swing?

Thirdly, theres 2 couples going, one in their 50's and one in their late 20's. Were after a nice hotel with minimal kids but only want self catering or bed and breakfast. Can anyone suggest a hotel close to the town which meets our criteria?

Thanks

Hi Mr Parson

Last year, we holidayed in Paphos at the end of October. The resort was quiet during the week but very busy at the weekends, particularly on Sunday nights, when the locals were out and about too.

Most restaurants were still open but we did notice that lots of the bars on Bar Street weren't. We made reservations at the restuarants we wanted to dine at as they were still very busy in the evenings.

The weather was very mixed - we had unseasonal heavy storms.

The Alexander the Great Hotel sounds perfect if you want to go B&B - it's only a 10/15 minute walk to the harbour and only 5 minutes from Bar Street (but far enough away that you don't hear the noise!). We were there are the tail end of the school holidays but it wasn't overrun by kids. One of the great things about the hotel is that you can reserve your sunbeds for the duration of your stay - if you want to be away from the kids, reserve ones overlooking the sea rather than by the pool. If do you end up here, I'd recommend getting full sea view rooms - it's worth paying the supplement!

Enjoy, U2fan

Weather should be still very good, but the odd thunder storm maybe about but they never last long, summer goes on until mid December many years that I have been here, not guarantee of course but light years better than most parts of Europe..

Paphos is a year round resort and does not close like some resorts on Cyprus, it will be of course be quieter than the high season, have to say tourism is well down again this year..

Very windy here today, but amazing hot winds, very uncomfortable indoors. 88f in my little office at this moment, and it is dark outside 8.20pm Sun...

We have been to Paphos on a number of occassions including late October. The weather was lovely and hot in the day but cool in the evening, light jacket only needed then though.

If you want self catering I could recommend an apartment or villa from
http://www.cyprusforyou.co.uk/prop1_apartments.php we have rented from them and we are a couple in their 50's with a couple in their 20's coming with us.

Or try http://www.apolloniacy.com/

Both these would give you a quieter time than in a hotel and may work out cheaper.

You will find that most people speak English, so very few language problems. They drive on the left as in the UK, electrical sockets are the 3 pin English kind.
It is cheaper to bring cash and change it in the tourist area shops, you get a good rate of exchange with no interest, or use the ATMs. Do not change money in the UK. It is still Cyprus Pounds, not Euros, here until January 2008.
The food is great, so is the weather - enjoy your holiday!

if you go into the mountain villages don't expect everyone to speak English many don't ...if you end up in a hotel aimed at our continental cousins it may have euro 2pin and earth sockets, if you hire a car watch your speed they now have quite a few fixed cameras and have recently purchased a couple of camera vans, drink local booze eat local food it will save you a fortune if possible eat and drink away from the main tourist areas again cheaper and usually far better quality

Early October is nice. Warm sunny days, but cooler in the evening. A hotel I can recommend is the Porto Paphos. They do B&B and you also have the opportunity to flexi dine where you can go half board as well. This hotel is the ONLY 3 star hotel on the front and is only a footstep away from top restaurants and if needed the lively bar street. I personally haven't stayed here recently, although I did pop in for a chat and used their pool recently as I know the manager well. I believe Thomson (always used to be in their small and friendly brochure) go here as well as First Choice and Thomas Cook.
