hi holidayrich

paris is very easy to get around - the metro is quick and efficient. plus if you are doing the sites and shopping, you can get around by walking from place to place, rather than taking the metro everywhere - just take a comfy pair of shoes. getting too and from charles de gaulle is easy too - you can either take the air france bus as suggested or take the RER - i suppose it depends where you are staying.

re: 3 or 4 days - i love paris, so i always try to spend as long as possible. four days will give you more time depending on what you want to do but however long you want to stay, you will not be bored! the price for packages to paris can vary so its worthwhile shopping around for flights and builing your own trip. british airways fly to charles de gaulle and you can fly to beauvais with ryanair who often have good deals on. expedia.co.uk and lastminute are good for cheap hotel rooms - i've not paid more £30 per night the last two times i've been and they've both been in very central locations. however you choose to book, you'll have a great time. enjoy :D

Some questions about Paris - Versailles :-

Does anybody know the best way to get from Paris (Chatalet) to Versailles.
The RATP site suggests Metro to Saint Lazare, Train to Versailles_Rive Droite then a bus to the Chateau ??

How much would a taxi cost ?

How far is the Chateau from the town of Versailles.

Is Versailles a good place to stop for a meal ?

and a couple of other questions :-

Are there bars, shops restaurants etc in the immediate vicinity of Stade De France ?
Are there bars, shops restaurants etc in the immediate vicinity of Moulin Rouge ?

Hi - I've only got a few answers, but I took the RER direct from Paris to Versaille and it was a shortish walk from there to the chateau. I think I remember there being a few places to eat in Versaille.

The Moulin Rouge is in the sex - shop area of Paris - its not too far from the Sacre Coeur and Montmartre and there are plenty of places to eat around there.

Hope this helps.

It's hubby's 60th next May and I want to take him on a surprise trip to Paris.

I really don't know which area would be best to stay in. Obviously we would like to see all the usual touristy things but when I was in Paris with my dad many eons ago, we spent some time in an area with lots of artists, small restaurants, shops and street stalls etc. We found that very interesting. I stilll remember the pancakes that we had one evening from a street stall (yummyyyyyyy). Can't remember the area though - left bank?

I would probably go for a 4 star hotel to get some luxury but would like to be near metro so we can go exploring a bit.

Which area should we go for? Any ideas? There are some nice hotels near Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysee but maybe that would be a bit clinical and too touristy. Prefer something with a more "local" flavour.

I really don't know so would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Cicekler

I think you mean Montmartre, near the Sacre Coeur? That's the artisty quarter.

There's a lot about Paris in the City Breaks section.

See you there!? (City Breaks, not Paris :? )

Hi

I wonder if you could help me. My partner has booked for us to go to paris by eurostar for two nights staying at Les Hotels de Paris Opera Grands Boulevards.

Does anyone have any info on this hotel?

Are the queues likely to be long to go up the eiffel tower in the evening?

Where are the cheapest places to eat?

Where should we visit? We have never been before.

Thanks

Hi!

The Marais area of Paris is lovely..this is the 4th District and a lovely hotel here is the Jeu de Paume..4**** and in the Ile St.Louis ...equally charming but less expensive is the Bourg Tibourg in the same area.

I doubt it will be that bad at the eiffel tower, we went at christmas and it was fine, to walk up it was pretty non exsistent and to take the life you had to wait about 15-20 mins!!

Thank you for that. Will have a look at 4th district to see how far that is from various sights.

As Valentines Day falls slap bang in the middle of half term week, it may be busy at the tower, certainly we will be there! We were there for an October half term week 18 months ago and it was very busy. February is a cheap month for schools to do their field trips, not just from the UK but from all over Europe.

Can anyone help me out with some info on Paris that I need for a report I'm writing on certain destinations in Europe?

I need to know the current typical cost of:-

- A bottle of beer
- A large glass of beer
- A bottle of house wine
- A packet of 20 cigarettes
- A quarterpounder and large fries (McDonalds)

Also, in a couple of paragaphs max, the best area to go for:-

- Pubs/Bars
- Nightclubs

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Have you thought of contacting the French Government Tourist Office in London for advice? I believe they are at 178 Piccadilly. Good luck!

We went for Valentines Day around 4 years ago and had a great time but it was freezing  so wrap up warm. We even went on the river cruise and froze but we walked alot and stopped off to drink hot drinks a lot also. The queue for the eiffel was pretty good about a 20 min wait but it wasn't half term week.

It's pretty pricey to eat in the main areas so try going off the beaten track. There is a students area but I can't recall what the name of it is at the moment where you can eat for a reasonable amount.

We went to the Jazz bar in Paris in the Latin Quarter. Brilliant. In the depths of Paris, among the catacombs/cellar. Cant remember the name but it is towards the top end of the Latin Quarter past all the salsa bars etc. They do have a website if you tap in jive in paris. There was a quartet playing swing and as my husband and I do French Jive (Ceroc) it was great to dance to. Tiny dance floor but everyone does a bit of dancing and takes turns as it is so small. Great experience! Very french! :D

You need to decide whether you want a hotel in Paris OR near Disneyland as I think there is a big difference. But whichever you choose, you can easily get to the other by the RER train.
