Have decided we are going to paxos this year, am aiming towards loggos but has anyone been to lakka? Whtas it like?
As they're both on the same island is it easy to get from loggos to lakka?
cheers
If you want walks you'd be better staying at Lakka - not quite such steep hills in and out!
As far as transport between - the island bus diverts into Longos a couple of times a day or you could hire your own boat.
Drop me a pm if you need any specifics!
We had our honeymoon on Paxos 7 years ago and stayed in Lakka.
It was lovely - big enough to have plenty of very good tavernas but small enough to feel romantic.
Loggos was very small but pretty.
You can walk between the two - if you are fairly fit.
Whichever you choose have a lovely time - we did.
Lakka is beautiful, with the whole place built around a well-sheltered bay, which is very popular with visiting yachts. There are a few small, sandy beaches and the water stays warm because the bay is nearly landlocked. Plenty of bars and restaurants and a good base for walking if you like starting uphill. There is a booklet giving details and maps.
Gaios is the main ferry base and is visited every day by people from Corfu and Parga. It has a bar with very good Fullers IPA if you've had enough Mythos. This hasn't happened to me yet.
Lakka for me, and there can be no finer place to chill out, and relax. A simply beautiful bay, Couple of nice bars and some great litle tavernas. Can be great fun watching the yachts arrive and depart each day. Sun is behind you when you are on the beach which is pebbles, but great clear water. If you fancy a sandy beach you can hire a little boat and find your own which you will probably have all to yourself. Otherwise there is a guy called Costas with a little fishing boat in the harbour who will take you over to Anti Paxos. Be warned its a full day and he supplies a lot of ouzo ...
Purely personal opinion, but to me Lakka has tried too hard over the last few years to attract new visitors and the "improvements" that they've made mean that it has lost a lot of its original character. Whereas there are very strict planning and conservation regulations that apply to Loggos and I understand that new buildings are no longer allowed on the harbourfront unless they are replicas of the buildings that they are replacing. Somehow, Loggos just feels smaller, friendlier and more traditional, whereas Lakka could be almost anywhere in Greece.
As far as beaches are concerned, the thing about the sun being behind you in Lakka also applies to Loggos, since they're both on the same side of the island. But it's only behind you if you insist on facing the sea - you can turn your li-lo or beachmat around to face the olive trees and sun if you want to and mine usually gets adjusted about once an hour! There are also plenty of boats to hire in Loggos and daytrips to Anti-Paxos, but the only really sandy beach on Paxos itself that I've ever seen (and I've explored the coastline quite extensively!) is the man-made one at the southern end of the island at Moggonissi.
