Hi I will be spending a lot of time in the Philippines over the next year to two years. Based in Mindanao (Bukidon) and Cebu.
Do I need to be worried about malaria.
Is safety an issue there?
What is there to do and see?
Thoroughly beautiful area, great people, wonderful place.
However, certain parts of Mindanao are a distinct 'no-go' (i.e. the Western parts around Zamboagna (sp?) and would require distinct security advice from specialists. I don't know Bukidon, but I would still research in full as there are shootings, kidnappings, bombs aplenty, but in very distinct areas. I felt very safe in the Philippines.
Things to see? Beaches, islands, and make sure you fit in the Chocolate Hills in Bohol! Adn one of the Easter festivals.
As for malarials etc, this is a good site: http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home.aspx
