Much cheaper to get your phone unlocked and buy a So Easy Sim Card in Cyprus. Phone calls are very cheap from here!
yes ive read that before but will my phone work to call england if i dont unlock it and get a so easy sim card.can i just use it as it is .its that we are coming to paphos for our silver wedding in early november and just want to let our dauhters 20 and 18 know we are ok either by texting or phoning thanks
It should work for texting, but not sure about making calls, I think some people on here have had problems with Orange when making calls to UK.
You need to check with Orange, before you leave the UK, that your phone is enabled to make internationals calls.
Also check the costs of calls and texts with them so you don't get any nasty surprises. You can also check this on the Orange website.

I have always used my Orange phone without a problem. Texts and calls.

Im with vodafone in the uk and my uk sim works fine just costs a fortune spent around 40pound in ten days. I tried to phone the so asy call centre but they were of no help

May need unlocking?
Anyone no why that could be.
Had they contacted their network provider to set up international roaming?
Tell them to count themselves lucky! I've just got my bill..... £130.00 for 4 weeks

Now I knew I could talk

Cheers,
Jinty
wow that was a lot, you would have been better with one of the cypriot phone cards.
Charlie Cyprus (Cytanet) have the network here well Marshalled, and many UK phone companies cards do not work here, if they do be prepared to pay big time, the answer is above if you are a frequent visitor..
Thanks for the info, it's the first time he as been to Cyprus and none of us have ever been so we just thought it would be the same as Spain etc. Then he phoned from a land line to tell us none of the phones would work.
Bit of advice if you take your mobile. Buy an Areeba holiday pack. It costs CY£5. You get a sim card and can top up with CY£4, CY£8 + CY£16 cards. It is soooooooo cheap. 1 cent per text. We couldnt spend all the top up despite phoning uk for hours at a time. Really good value for money.

I thought all mobile phone operators within EU are being made to reduce international call rates?..I know I've had a text about it on mine, saying more news late July...
Both give you extra every time you buy a top-up, can't remember how much but I'm sure someone will know.
We did have too have our Orange phones unlocked before we went out tho, cost £10. each but if you shop around you can sometimes get it for £7.00.
Only thing is, it only lasts for 365 days so that means you have to go back to keep the contract going. Hence the reason I'm going back again in September

Cheers,
Jinty
LOL thats as bad as me accidently keeping a Cy£10 note so needing to go back to spend it... .
