As anyone been to Phu Quoc in Vietnam and can anyone reccommend any good clean accommodation.
We will be going in Jan 2007.
Thanks
I think we will be going for the La Veranda Hotel, looks very nice, attractive price now the Dollar is $1.90 to the pound.
It looks absolutely gorgeous! I have asked for it to be added to our reviews, but we may be lucky if we get anyone here who has been. Mind you, Vietnam is definitely becoming more popular.
I`ll get back to you.
Be warned it`s very quiet, unless your there for the new year, when all of Vietnam decend on to Pho Quoc for the three day holiday. Take a snorkel or you can hire them on the beach, or if you wish there`s a paddys diving centre on the beach as well. Not many restaurants or bars there, but if you like cycling you can hire those, and explore the island.
I`ll try and find the photo`s to show you.
We are going for a short break, so being a little quiet will be ok.We are 2 couples in our 50's but still like getting out and about.
We went to Vietnam 2 years ago and travelled around for 3 weeks independantly, had a great time.Went to Ho Chi Minh,Mekong Delta,Mui Ne and Cambodia.
This time we are flying into Ho Chi Minh and planning to go to Nha Trang,Phu Quoc and where ever it takes our fancy on the last week.[/url]
All the locals catch the ferry there, and fly back, so i had to bribe a local for his two seats to get our connecting flight back to the uk. We liked Nha Trang alot, they say on the lonely planet site thats it`s to commercialised, but thats rubbish, there`s only one bar on the beach called the sailing club. Only one thing while in Nha Trang you can`t fly direct to Phu Quoc or vica versa, you have to go back to Saigon for the flight, and watch out for the flight times, you may have to stay over in Saigon.
Did you mean Mui N E on your post? Thats ok, but you can`t fly there, it`s a 5 hour road journey from Saigon, and on those roads it feels like a lifetime, as no doubt your aware. Only one warning don`t go to Vung Tao, the place Gary Glitter made famous, we went there on a recomendation, really bad mistake, it`s the sex capital of Vietnam, only westerners are desperate Americans & Australians.
What exact dates are you in Vietnam, i`m flying there soon.
Thanks for the advice.
We are thinking of going to Phu Quoc on the 7th Jan till the 13th.We are having trouble already trying to get in at La Veranda Hotel.
We are intending flying from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc, who would you recommend booking our flights with.
We are flying out to Ho Chi Minh on the 30th Dec and meeting up with our friends on the 2nd Jan in Nha Trang.
It's funny you say about Vung Tau,we were thinking of going on our last week(not now).
The La Veranda, has a nice restaurant, but don`t worry if you can`t get in, there`s lots of additional accommodation in Phu Quoc, some of the little huts on the beach have en-suite bathrooms with hot water, we just chose to stay in the other ones. I think the La Veranda is popular because it is the only hotel with a swimming pool, but as the sea is idyllic, there`s no need for a pool.
When in Nha Trang, we stayed at the Nha Trang lodge, we had the suite on the 12th floor, the views were fabulous, and it was $100 a night, not bad considering a London equivalent would be about £700. Also we stayed for a couple of nights at the Vin Pearl hotel, on the little island, it`s the only 7 star hotel in the whole of Vietnam, you get a boat taxi back and for when you want, it`s all free and it`s exactly when you want.
Be warned when we stayed there it had just opened, so the price was hugely reduced to attract visitors, saying that there was only 20 people there, we paid $100 a night, which was very cheap when you see the rooms, and the service. And the pool is unbeilvable, and we had it all to ourselves, and it`s got it`s own very nice private beach. As before i`m not sure what the`yre charging now.
We fly out on the 22nd, and are staying at the Rex in Saigon, then we`ll see what happens from there.
We have now booked a return flight with vn airlines to Phu Quoc.
Took your advise and rang London.
Still having trouble getting accommodation for the 6th January.
