We love going to Benidorm but we mostly go in the winter as I am not a sun bathing person. Most days we tend not to stay in the Levante area during the daytime as we like getting out and about.
On our holiday this month we went to:-
1. the Village of Finestrat which is up in the hills and walked up to a lovely view point where there is a Hermitage, as well as calling in a lovely church. (a 1.30 euro bus journey)
2. Villayosa, a pretty resort with an attractive promenade just a short train journey away.
3. We visited the old town and church at Altea (Which I described in another post)
4. We walked along Poniente front to Cala Finestrat
5. Another day we got the bus to Cala Finestrat then walked up through all the new buildings and back along the main road so that we could see the progress on the Residential In Tempo the new hotel being built.
6. Part of the way up to the Cross on one day.
7. Another day up the hills again to walk to a tower, which Sanji tells me is the Torre Punta de la Cavell, another lovely viewing point.
8. We got the bus to Albir and then walked to Altea but stayed on the sea front and in the shops on the main street.
9. We had a walk in the Aiguera Park.
10. Several times we walked into the old town (we were disappointed that Dove Park is still closed).
11. A blanket Trip! we went to a wine tasting, to the Caves at Bendioleig and to Calpe.
In the evenings we do enjoy strolling on the Levante promenade before choosing which Show to go to or just visit one of our favourite bars.
As we were in Benidorm on Shrove Tuesday we went to see the parade for the 'Burial of the Sardine' and the superb Firework display afterwards.
I really need another holiday to recover!
Sue
Its good to hear about people who make an effort to see the area and not just sit around a hotel complex all day.
I am going back to Benidorm in April with my husband & son who have never been before. We have hired a car so that we can do some exploring.
I am currently making a list of all the places I want to see, although we are only going for a week so time is a bit limited. My friend lives in Albir so we will be visiting there and we will have a couple of trips out with her and her husband.
Can't wait - not too long now! Will be keeping my fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine - fed up of this gloomy weather.
Carmel
You've gone and done it with this topic.....
I've just this minute got off the phone and booked for a week (for my birthday) hubby is paying .
Always gone for 2 weeks, but between the choice of not going, or going for one week...the latter finally won the day !
And I've just realised it will be Easter.
Sanji x
Was this a total surprise or had you been secretly planning??
It isnt long to wait anyway.
I have just shown my husband some figures for our C del Sol holiday in May.
Sue
We're going back to La Carihuela in the beginning of June, that's already booked.
No, not been secretly planning. The other day we were having a heated discussion about whether or not we were going to have a turkey (of all things) for Easter and he just said why "don't we go away for your birthday" and I kindda hummed and harred (spel?) and looked at a few prices and then thought no, I need to get certain things done at home before June and forgot about Easter being early this year.I have problems remembering what day it is.
Then after I read your post, I thought sod it, why not ? and booked it tonight. So I'm gonna blame you.
Anway, before we get told off for being way off topic. ....here are the photo's that you sent me of the Torre de la Punta de Cavall and the fantastic photo of the Torre Lúgano. (another thread, but not really in another thread).... I've resized them down.
Torre de la Punta de Cavall
Torre Lúgano.
Here's one I took of Polop at Xmas.
The Sleeping Lion Mountain.(León Dormidó ) Mount Ponoig.
It took me years to see ( figure out where the lion was) anyway, just a glimpse of what there is outside Benidorm.

Danny and my family are going to Benidorm at Easter staying at the Flamingo Oasis. Are you staying at the Regent again?
Jean
Yes...going on the 18th march....only across the road
We're going on 22nd March
We are going on 16th March to Apartments Avenida just for the week. Can't wait! We like to go Christmas and New Year but missed out last time as we couldn't get off work. The last time we were in Benidorm was September and I was ill for most of it so this time I am determined to be well! I was really interested in the places you have visited, Sue. Like you we enjoy getting out and about and you have given me some good ideas. My OH has me walking everywhere! And usually starting before 9am. He says going any later is loosing the day.......
Why is Dove Park closed, ? is it major works ? going to Beni end of May..
Dove Park may be closed as there has been a lot of work going on around that area for quite a while. I think Sanji is the person most likely to have an answer!
Starkeybabe.. Sanji, have you any info please ? Snowey
I'm assuming that the work must have only just started before xmas, as the place was being ripped up with mounds and mounds of earth all over the place.
Sorry I didn't take note of the date of expected completion, but I'll have a look next month.
Sanji, have a nice time when you go in March,
I'm sure we will
The Mayor of Benidorm this week inaugurated the newly renovated Parque de Elche, more commonly known to British tourists as Dove Park. The park has undergone a complete makeover costing €325,000 and taking 3 months to complete. New features include improved lighting and walkways, redesigned gardens, a kids zone and an adults gymnasium.
Have a good time in Benidorm. If we see you around with your camcorder we'll introduce ourselves. Hope the weather will be better than here at the moment!
Jean
We were up in the old town last night to film the procession and see the fallas bonfires and I caught the new fountains on entry to the park, on the camcorder, they were switched off at 11pm.......all changing colours.
We will go back up in the daytime to film it before we come home, but the redesign has "opened it up" and that bit of the promenade has been made a lot wider.
The "point" is now closed off for renovations.
San Jaime church is beautiful....we were in there last night before the "brotherhood " procession took place.

Thanks Sanji, re Dove Park, sounds very nice, looking forward to end of May when we go, back to the Benilux Park. Hope you and your Hubby are enjoying your hols, shame about the old pound , hope it recovers soon......
Looking forward to your video of Dove park, it`s my favorite place in Benidorm, glad it`s back open. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
